hi, all. my first post, so take it easy on the OC.org newbie

i'll lead off with this;

i was confronted at the dollar general in Cradock last week with my wife and kids. the cashier lady was upset that i was open-carrying in the store. i was walking up to the checkout stand with my items when she stopped me in the aisle.
she asked me if i was a cop. i said 'no', and then she said that me having that gun in her store bothered her and made her uncomfortable and that she wanted me to leave.

You should have said, "OK" and left your cart there. Walk away, and spend your money somewhere else.

Closure!!!!!1!

minutes ago, i just heard back from the general manager, John Otaka.

He sincerely apologized for the events that unfolded, and openly welcomed me to shop in his stores withing my second ammendment rights.
he will hold a meeting thursday with all the store personell and clear up any confusion about this type of thing.
DG's store policy on firearms currently only adresses employee's. Employee's are prohibited from having any weapons.
customer's are not adressed in the policy. if DG's policy changes, he has my # and email adress and said he will update me.

he went on to divulge to me that he is an NRA member, but does not have his CC permit. we chatted for a bit about the restrictions/benifits of a CC permit. we both closed the conversation with apologies to eachother for the event/my behavior and thanked eachother for the communication.

so, go ahead guys and gals; CARRY ON

HOORAY!! :banana::monkey:banana::monkey:banana::monkey:banana::monkey:banana::monkey

Good job well done. Someone slap a Navy E on that fella's superstructure.

Thanks for doing your part to keep this from deteriorating into something that might have lost the cause for us. Let's all go shopping at Dollar General to celebrate.

stay safe.

i asked her if she knew [...] if there was a sign on the store front permitting firearms. she shrugged her shoulders and then went to look on the store front windows for a sign. ... there was no sign.

That's a good way to get the place posted. Don't bring up signs, that way concealed carriers won't be bothered.

3 steps forward and 2 steps back

as of Oct, i had spoken with the dollar general district manager, and every thing was cool.

well apparently this clerk, Cindy, diddn't get the memo.

last tuesday night she saw me OCing agian, and informed me that i needed to leave with my firearm.
i informed her that she needed to call her district manager. she replied that her direct manager last told her that customers were not permitted to carry in the store. i said that her direct manager needed to call the district manger.
she said that she didn't have the district manager's phone #.

i finished paying and called the district manager as sson as i got to my car. it was 1830, and he answered (must be his cell #). he apologised again, and said he would ensure she got the message, and call me back about it. ...

i'm still waiitng for a call form him.

Well , good resolution, I guess, Nilla...

You have run up against something we do see, even in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. Extreme anti-gun prejudice from a misinformed employee. We have much more of this versus problems with corporate offices, overall.

Oh and welcome to OCDO!

Familiarize yourself with the laws, your rights, and private property rights and all should go well. This board is a wealth of good information and provides a means to communicate with those that have "gone before".

I would be willing to bet the employee was not misinformed, rather willfully defiant of policy and acting under color of authority (read: insubordinate).

That's grounds for dismissal in worse places to work than a Dollar store.

As someone who works in retail at the corporate level, I've never known anywhere that lets line level employees set policy. If Cindy worked for me, she'd get promoted... to customer.

i don't think thios lady is being insubordinate or she is trying to bully customers. i think that she is genuenly scared of firearms, and i would speculate that she expressed her concers to her immediate supervisor and that person is seeing her side of it, and being understanding and personable about it. so since DG has no 'offical policy' on customers carrying in stores, she feels that it is up to her discretion.

Hey, I won't stick around and spend my hard-earned money in an establishment that doesn't want my business.

i was avoiding DG, and would have continued to, but i spoke with the district manger and he personally invited me back into his stores.

nope.
i should start compiling recipts and send them to their local office so they can see that i have been and will continue to shop elsewhere.
they really have no other reason to want me to come back in their stores, after all the stink i've caused.

i've called, and e-mailed, and left messages, and called again. all the while; i'm trying to get them to let me spend money in their store.
it should be the other way around.
