I have an opportunity to purchase a Colt 1911 model #01991, Government Issue, w/ Blue finish, custom serial #, normal roll marks on both sides of the slide, skellonized trigger, and custom engraved stocks for $756 directly from Colt...never been into 1911's was wondering if this is a good buy or not? Any input would be appreciated. Thank You in advance.

$756? If you can afford it, hell yea, the price on colts only goes up. That is not much more than a RI.

I made the mistake in the late seventies of not buying 10 Nickel Colt Pythons for $250 apiece, or $300 for each one. In today's market they are now worth 2 to 3 grand.

Nothing wrong with a RI, but it will always be a RI, a colt will always appreciate in value. You should also note that I sated if you can afford it. Somehow though I believe that the OP did not look close enough. I would suspect the retail price on a colt 1911 with custom grips to have a 1 before the 7.

Colts are IMO a good investment, even if used as daily carry.

Presume the one you are considering is not NIB - might get lucky with a slightly lower offer - the model 1991 is an entry level Colt, but this one sounds nicely upgraded.

Nope $756 is the correct price. The order is from Colt's Deployment Department made just for units who are deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq when we were still there. The grips have the units emblem, and the serial # is specific to the unit. Say i were with 3/5 serial number would read 3BN5MAR001-200.

The guns are new in box, made specifically for the armed forces personnel who purchase the weapons custom done to specification from the person who made the order from the unit usually a commanding officer.

Im just asking if $756 is a reasonable price for the handgun.

IMO it is reasonable, it is a colt.

my understand from an acquaintance is wholesale for the 01991 model firearm w/o the unit emblems is around $788 plus shipping and handling...

it is an excellent investment opportunity as they are excellently crafted firearms.

Roger that! I recently acquired some 1911 parts that some believe was going to be built into a race or maybe a Pin gun. It's missing some parts, but I'll get those in short order.

Would also like to get either a Gov frame, or an 80% and build it from there, as the customized slide is full-sized, but the frame is Commander, as well as beat to heck.

I would jump on that in a heartbeat if you can swing the cash.......As others have said, the Colt value will only go up.

Range Officer Compact

Im loving my new Springfield Armory Range Officer Compact. I bought it brand new sight unseen I just knew this was the one for me.
I did a lot of research which you can see here incase anyone is interested in the specs.

I hope to have a video up soon once I have more rounds through this gun and I become a bit more proficient.
This is my first gun with the sliding trigger, not sure what its actually called however it is taking me some time to get used to.

To OP, I do A TON of trolling around for great deals on guns. That being said, if I were you, I would take others' advice and buy as many of these guns as you can afford. I'll bet you could resell them immediately for $850-$900 to the right civilian buyer. That's immediately. If you waited 10-20 years and it was a 1 of 500 or less, you'd likely double or triple your money, or more, especially if the buyer is someone who was also in Afghanistan at that time and never ordered one. Colts basically do not depreciate unless you beat the hell out of them.
