I am constantly amazed at the open attitude here in Bandera (or even, as I have found, mostly in SA). The lady outside of the OST cracked me up. She was so open and friendly and even jokingly mentioned about "me being armed" when I went into the restaurant and then poked fun at me when I came out. No wide eyed fear....no shrieking in terror and even the Girl Scouts weren't cowering in fear behind their mother's skirts. Just another 'ho-hum non-event'. LOVE IT.
As we talked about, concealed carry is an option as well as open carry. It's nice to be able to walk around with a tshirt rather than being FORCED to wear a cover shirt.
Regards and thanks for the "stogie". Next one's on me.

Yes sir! Another great hook up! Looking forward to the next one!

First time OC yesterday, went to Denver matress and lowes 2 times... today I made 2 more trips to lowes, payless shoes (ughh, wife made me...) and picked up a To go order at pizza hut.

All of it was uneventful minus Denver matress, where one of the sales guys was staring at my gun while talking to my friend for about 3 minutes.

But it went surprisingly well, not that I was expecting any issues though.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your first OC. Isn't it great not having to cover up!?

I noticed you're in Killeen. We were talking earlier about maybe setting up a Texas OC meet-n-greet in that area for spring since it's equidistant from S.A./Austin, Dallas and Houston, but weren't familiar with any of the places in the town as potential hosts. Perhaps you have some pointers on that?

No Butterflies

Welcome aboard.

You didn't enjoy the excursion? No internal pitter patter? :p

I have OCed in Arizona quite a bit, so no butterflies in the stomach. I will try wally world again this afternoon. I just want to experience the rent-a-cop's reaction. I like to mess with peoples' heads ;)

Stopped in at La Madeleine in Plano (15th & 75) to pick up an order on the way home from Kroger yesterday. Pretty crowded due to Valentine's day, and I had to wait a few minutes for it to be ready, but the experience was entirely bereft of a panicked stampede for the door. In fact, there was a complete lack of comment, funny looks, wet pants, or even notice, as far as I could tell.

I would've thought entering a French food place would have all the EEs raise their hands and surrender when you ordered your croak Monsieur....

Don't you mean run very fast in the opposite direction?

Naw. We'll just get SpeedDaemon and Matt to go OC in La Madeleines... we can then wait outside and open a book on who makes it over the nearest fence the fastest

Lately: Quiznos, Dairy Queen, Lowes Market, Walgreens, and one new place which is Aspen's Brew Coffee Shop on Huebner near I-10. Wish I had something exciting to report but I don't :(

It is playing out pretty much as most people in Texas expected.

Kroger n Arlington is just like its counterpart in Colorado Springs - King Sooper - SUPER.

My wife and I open carry rather subtly anyway..but... it has not gone entirely unnoticed.

If you think about it...folks in Mom & Pop establishments, restaurants , whatever ..who may have criminal records restricting THEIR OWN right to carry ...may logically be expected to be less than welcoming to OC.

All in all...Just about as expected ...in Texas.

Congratulations !

Ever since that Garland traffic cop shot the muzz at the mohammed cartoon contest, it has been pretty quiet in these parts.
No excitement in my open carry out and about in Arlington.

The best advertising of the acceptance of OC is the reports of nothing adverse happening.

That and it compiles a list of businesses that simply say "Welcome" to their customers.

OCed at WalMart Again

Just OCed at WalMart. Uniformed guard at door did not seem to notice the Kimber 45 on my belt. 2 young men in their mid 30's came up to me and shook my hand and told me how much they respected and admired me for exercising my right to carry a gun. I talked to them for several minutes and educated them on Texas law. They said they are going to get a license and start carrying.:D

That's awesome! Pity you didn't hand them one of the Texas OC Trifolds though. I've been keeping a few on me just for times like that. :)

A few more of the usual places, Subway, Walgreens, gas stations, etc. Went to get pizza last night at Cowboy Capital Pizza in Bandera and the owner lady was there this time. She mentioned about seeing me in line at Lowes Market the other day but didn't say anything about anyone saying the word "scary" while in line--guess I may of imagined that or taken something out of context.

One thing I've noticed: In the big city (San Antonio) nobody says a thing about my OC. Like they don't notice, don't care, or daren't bring up a conversation (good or bad) about it. But in the small towns (Bandera, Boerne, etc.) people notice and are willing to talk.

Another Uneventful WalMart OC

OCed at another El Paso WalMart this evening. The store located at Yarborough and I-10. Walked right past the guard, all around the store, through the check out and out the door past the guard. I don't think anybody even noticed. I was wearing light colored clothing and the holster is a black Galco. The rig definitely had contrast. Don't know what to say.

I totally understand what you're saying...I mentioned before that I think I need to put some flashing LED's around my rig for anyone to even pay attention!

.
On another note, wife and I went to check out the new Forge Restaurant/Bar last night in Bandera. I didn't carry because I assumed it would be a 51% place which it doesn't seem to be. I enjoyed a nice beer since I was unarmed but next time I'll do carry and coke. :) I've got to say, the food was phenomenal: corn fed Wisconsin sirloin, 12 bucks a piece with side salad, veggies and baked potato. Anyways, that's besides the point...

Thursday was the Chamber of Commerce "Lunch & Learn" advising local businesses about open carry and signage. When we were approaching The Forge I thought I saw some new big red signs in Lowe's Market (grocery store) windows by the doors. It did ruin my dinner a bit because all I could think of was going round to check out the signs and then put my [cunning] plan in action to get them removed. Turns out I was mistaken (thankfully) but I do have a feeling some signs may go up somewhere in the next few days due to that meeting. Also suspicious is that the town Marshal never did respond to my email about the whole issue.

Staying back on track: Besides Mini-Mart, Walgreens, etc. I did my usual bi-weekly trip to WalMart money center and then the Woodforest Bank with no issues (as usual) :)
