First meet up... Was great!!!

Great meet up! it's was my first and will not be my last... It was good to meet everyone and I also like that most of us all ended up in sportsman warehouse or whatever it's call now to get out of the cold and just talk... Everyone was friendly and I actually felt welcome... Thanks for that! I will defiantly be going to future meet ups...

My first meet, too

My wife and I finally made it! Nice to meet more of you and get a chance to match faces to the names. Had a great time - left before you all went to Sportsmen's Warehouse, had to go across town to visit my mother. It's her 86th birthday next week. Hope to do this more often.

I will not be able to attend this morning's meeting because I am currently without transportation. The car died about 3 weeks ago and I am walking and using the bus system. I didn't ask for a ride because none of you live close to Renton and I don't want to cause extra expense with gas as high as it is. But I am there in spirit.

Also, I just got a part time job at Lowe's here in Renton and they are very anti-gun. I don't know what they would say if they found out that I OC. I need this job very badly because my house cleaning income has plummeted; it's a matter of financial survival.

I will miss seeing all of you and meeting the newbies. When circumstances improve, I will be back.

Thank you for your kind words, GoGo. I certainly miss seeing all of you. Being without personal transportation is inconvenient, to say the least. But I have adjusted and I can still get to most of my customers and to Lowe's. I decided to take a positive attitude to this and enjoy it if possible. I have met a very large variety of people, so it is interesting to say the least. I can't believe the amount of money I am saving; between gas, insurance, taxes and tags, car repairs, etc. I estimate I am saving $3,500 a year! You don't realize all that is going out because we all take our vehicles for granted.

The only downside is I can't carry at Lowe's. If I did and it was discovered, I would be terminated immediately. Taking the bus at night and then walking home a half mile, unarmed, does bother me somewhat. I am very alert, there are businesses close that I could run to, and I carry my pepperspray, which hopefully would disorient a person long enough for me to run to safety. I have also taken a self defense class on how to break grabs and holds and you better believe I would fight. I apologize for taking this thread OT, just want you all to know my situation. Hopefully, it won't last too long. Everyone take care and stay safe!

Ruby-

Do you have a locker at Lowes? A place where you can secure your purse while working? If so, you might consider one of these:

Put in a large purse/shoulder bag and just lock the gun in it and lock the purse up in the locker while working.

This box is $23 at Midway-USA

What's Lowe's policy on Pepper Spray? If OK, at least have a can in your coat pocket for that trip to the bus.

Thanks for the suggestion. Guns, knives, etc. are not allowed on the property. I have a locker but it is subject to search at any time. Same goes for personal vehicles. Refusing a search is grounds for termination. Welcome to the corporate world! I am reminded why I left it many years ago.

I do carry pepper spray, it is by Kimber. And I don't care what their policy is on pepper spray, I am not going to be totally defenseless. I don't like the situation, but I know that a lot of people here on the forum are in the same situation and can't carry at work.

Ani doesn'ty frequent the forums but she does the phone :)

If you don't give them a reason to search, they probably never will.
I also am prohibited from having a firearm on company property and am subject to search by them. I do it anyway and am willing to lose my job over it, but I will not give up my right because it's against the rules. I do not give them a reason to search and I have already let them know that I will not refuse a search but to search my vehicle they will be required to have the local police conduct the search. I will require the local PD to have a search warrant naming specifically what they are looking for. My work would need to provide evidence to the PD that I did something illegal(which will never happen) in order to get a judge to sign a warrant.
