I have contacted the admin, asking for their discretion in the matter, but I have posted the thread giving credit to ghostrider.

I understand the discretion request.

On the other side of the equation, knowledge is for those who would use it. Even if the admins refused a word-for-word copying, I wouldn't waste any time taking the info and re-writing, and re-compiling it into an original work.

I would even credit Ghostrider. Maybe saying the new composition was inspired by Ghostrider. Maybe saying I was saving his work until he returned. We all have our bad days, bad weeks. Some even bad decades and lifetimes. Nobody is perfect, but I am still enough of his friend to keep his memory alive until he gets past his rough patch and returns.

Unsticky

If this thread has lost the core of its content, can we get someone to unsticky it?

WOW!!!

So Ghostrider takes down HIS work off of this website, and SAYS he doesn't want it on HERE, yet a few of you think it's OK to dig it up from somewhere and put it back up?

The information is relevant, public, and could keep someone out of jail.

Stainless, did you ever think as to WHY he might not want it on OCDO? Have you tried asking him?

It was discussed.

Regardless, the person who CREATED that information obviously doesn't want it on here.

Its posted on a public forum, and still available online.

Threads do that quite naturally from time to time, nature of the beast I guess. There isnt any loss in that, except in this case where the original content was deleted. This sticky thread might be restored by ghostrider, lets give him a chance.

Did GHOSTRIDER say you could use it?

What is posted in public for all to see that is not copyrighted is for all to see and for all to use. Just because he posts something doesn't mean he owns it and therefore has total control over whoever uses it and for what purpose. If it's not copyrighted, it's completely fair game for anyone on the planet to use at their discretion because it's posted in a public domain, unless otherwise specified in the user agreement of OCDO. Sure, he can edit it, but if anyone 'owns' his post, it's John and the moderators of OCDO. Whatever you agree to whenever the user agreement is signed and you create an account is what is agreed to. If, in the user agreement the moderators take absolutely no responsibility for anything posted (which they do, which is why the forums are moderated) then likely, all that is said here is 'owned' by OCDO.

That being said, Wash, Rinse and Repeat has helped nearly every single person in some way, shape or form in the Michigan forums. I would highly encourage all administration to leave it so that we can continue to use it. If not, I'll rewrite it using my own words and repost it if need be.

+1 If you post it on an internet forum, it is public domain. I do not need permission to repost it anywhere on the internet. Claiming it as my own work is a different story. Out of respect I would honor anyone of your requests to not republish your work. I wish Ghostrider would bring it back for the good of the cause. Until then, why would we not just put a link up in it's place to UFO?

Everything you write is automatically copyrighted. Is there a Terms of use of OCDO that says you give up the copyright of everything you post to them?

FORUM RULES

(1) YOU OWN YOUR WORDS ONCE THEY ARE POSTED: While we will attempt to help those who have a legitimate need to remove postings they have made in haste or error, our time and ability to do so is not unlimited and there is no guarantee that such a request will be granted. Therefore, post only those comments that you have considered and are willing to take full responsibility for!

(11) RESPECT COPYRIGHT HOLDERS: We often share news stories with one another. Please remember that these stories are copyrighted material and only post a fair-use excerpt along with a link where the rest of the story may be read.

Yes, well aware of these in the Forum Rules.

Here is the question I was responding to:

Is there a Terms of use of OCDO that says you give up the copyright of everything you post to them?

I do agree that they are related, but I was trying to limit my response only to the question asked.

I think we need to look at these in context.

#(1) is stating "own up" to stuff you post, and if you post be prepared to take full responsibility for any repercussions from it.
#(11) pertains to plagiarizing.

everything that is posted in a public forum is not automatically "copyrighted".
a better way of handling this would be to respect the OP's wishes and not re-post it.
I agree with others that this information is of value and should stay available for new members to see.

I tried my very best to stay out of this ... but find I must speak my mind.

My personal opinion.....

Ghostrider removed his writings for "Wash, Rinse, Repeat" from the forum for whatever reasons he may have. I respect that.

His writings have great value to all those who would open carry and those writings could be of great help to anyone.... even if not reserved just for open carry. This is not the issue.

If Ghostrider has not been asked if his writings could be reposted (and I gather he hasn't been asked/hasn't given permission/if wanted it still posted would have left it there... or there wouldn't be such a dust up over it) then reposting it without his permission because everyone could gain from reading it... to me... smacks of the same perspective of "redistribution because it serves the greater good" coming from Washington.

I have no clue as to the actual black letter law and pertinent case law concerning who owns Ghostrider's writings on the forum. And, as far as I am concerned, that isn't the issue.

The real issue for me is the lack of respect shown to Ghostrider.

So there y'all have it... my unasked for, totally politically incorrect, and based in principles, personal opinion!

.

if someone had QUOTED IT while it was posted by ghostrider
it would still be there!
questions about ownership would be moot.
it still is an excellent post, and is available at united firearms owners, with his approval.
it is valid advice in EVERY state, not just michigan.
