deputy chassed me out of Owens rd

Hey yall, Took my AirForce buddy for some Markmenship practice out to Owens road. hadn't put but 10 rounds down range when a Deputy pulled up and told us we had to leave. Saying your weren't allowed to shoot out there. We asked him why and he said there was no open shooting in Benton county. Not wanting to bother with a argument we packed up and left. Has anyone heard anything about the County changing the Codes? I have shoot out here for Years.

"Open Shooting"? What does that mean - outdoors? Looking for someone local to explain - very strange.

Were you on private property or state/county land? You may have been moved on under color of law.

Owens Rd. is privately owned, but this is the first time I've heard of someone being asked to leave. It has been very dry, and there was a 1,000 acre fire near there last night.

Then would presume that the officer had no authority to tell anyone to move on.

Might be a good thing to get permission from the land owner. A simple agreement, holding him harmless and promising to keep trash and debris cleaned up,

Yeah, easy to say, harder to actually do. I've tried to track down the actual owners of the dirt out there. The main area is owned by the Kennewick Public Hospital District but other portions are publicly owned. So, the actual ownership is fairly convoluted and then add in that people have been shooting out there literally for generations. The place is often a mess since people dump garbage out there and then other folks (many with shotguns...) come along and shoot up the garbage. We always take our old pickup when we go and take a full load to the dump when we leave. We have actually had a couple of OC cleanup/shoots out there in the past.

I'm sure the fire got a deputy stationed out in that neck of the woods until the rain shows up again. There's fires every year or so out there, it's just grass and garbage that burns. Always blamed on "Human activity."

There are a few areas of Benton Co where you cannot legally hunt or shoot a firearm. Link to Benton Co Code. And maps for those with too much free time...

Potential OC event

All -

The first Thursday of each month there is an Art Walk in downtown Kennewick. Many of the businesses showcase local artists and it's a free chill event that's great for date night with the wife, but is family friendly too. The owners of You & I Framing gallery are fine folks that are letting me show a few pieces at the event, this time I'll be focusing on the upcoming election (don't be surprised if I don't support Obama in my work) and I'm also going to crank out a few peices to promote firearm carry awareness as well as the sheepdog concept. I plan to attend if my workschedule permits, and I will be OC if I do - the store owners support our rights as Americans to keep and bear arms so there won't be an issue if anyone stops by OC, I'll be there OC with my thigh rig as always and the only thing they'll have to say about it is "Leave" to anyone that objects to firearm carry.

Also this isn't shameless self-promotion, none of my art is groundbreaking and I don't sell any of it - it's free to whomever wants it. I just haven't seen any OC events here in the longest time and figure this would be a good time and location to meet given the nature of work I'll be presenting.

November 1st, I believe the thing starts at 5PM and runs to 9PM - just depends on when the different businesses slow down for the night and close.

http://www.facebook.com/kennewickartwalk - that link will have more info on the event, and they have a nice map showing all the businesses that participate in the event. All same businesses generally display art for a month which makes for a pleasant walkabout afternoon with the wife if you like that sort of thing.

Work permitting I'll be at 'You & I' with my stuff, I'll bring a bunch of the WA OC pamphlets and print a volume or two of the 'Gun Myths' for any interested or uneducated folks. I'm not 'aesthetically' gifted or centric in what I do, but I can rock symbolism and make statements. I've come to learn that some minds will never change, only fight, so I'm just making and presenting my stuff for public awareness (we are out there with the blessing of the law) and to educate anyone interested/on the fence about the matter.

***If there's anyone local that has a good deal of NRA mags with the 'Armed Citizen' article I would be very grateful if I could at least borrow them to copy off the 'AC' from each. My NRA mags get donated to work when I finish them, and I have an idea for a piece that would require more of them than I have on hand now. PM me if you could help out with that.***
