eliminate the situation

if that had been me...as soon as he went for the gun..he'd been out cold..dead or other wise....i had a situation a while back here in AZ...were a kid was waving a taser at me, firing it off....trying to wind me up....i was OCing in my own front yard...i reported it to the police...i was told ...."even if he did taser you"...it wouldnt of killed me..."but" he could of taken my own gun from me and used it on myself...i was told it was enough to use deadly force...and trying to take a gun at force is the same..taser or no taser....use what you have to , to eliminate the situation
Think about what he would of done with your gun..if he got the draw on you!!....the way he was talking..you'd be dead by now....he was a nutbag...remember.."you cant judge a book by its cover"...Ted Bundy seemed like a nice guy too when they met him!!

PS..the Kid..i had reported his drug dealings at his mom and pops house from across the street from me, and he thought he could threaten/scare me....house empty now...a visit from DEA does wonders..lol

had I put the guy down, I would not be here to tell about it. I did not think the situation called for threatening or using deadly force. Has I have stated several times in this thread, I judged by his attitude and actions towards me, he was a potential threat, but I did not see my life as being in danger because he wanted me to draw on him - he was deliberately pushing me and trying to cause a scene. I acted only to make it clear to him that he was on the border of being considered a threat to my life. The outcome resulted in no shots being fired, no one being hurt, and no police being dispatched to the scene. I walked away and so did the BG. Had he managed to get my gun, I would have had no business carrying it to begin with. Standing my ground and not letting the situation get out of hand was the best way to go. Withdrawing would have made the situation worse and shooting would have landed me behind bars or at the very least in a costly and time consuming legal struggle. I am graduating college in a couple of months, shooting the perp would have ended that. If the encounter occurred here in Arizona - I would have been able to act differently.

I have no doubt that if I had drawn and pulled the trigger, I would not be here right now. He was ignorant, stupid, and had no clue how to act around a civilian carrying a firearm. The safest thing to do was to secure the weapon and put myself in a position to draw and fire if he failed to heed my warnings. He was trying to see how far I would go. Was he dangerous? Absolutely. Was he a threat to my life? Possibly. Did the situation justify further response on my part (charging him with multiple felonies) yes. Would a reasonable person think that my life was in danger and therefore justifiable to take someone's life? Probably not -- especially in Seattle.

And I did not carry with a round in the chamber. At the time I did not have a WA CPL so I had to remove the magazine every time I got in the car. I am not fond of the idea of handling and racking the weapon in a parking lot. I am trained enough to where I can draw, rack, and present in the same motion.

Hey if you do come back here to WA definitely get your CPL. It's so much easier to rack a round before I leave the house, and not have to worry about loading and unloading when I get in and out of the car. Don't forget to come to our coffee get togethers!

I think you handled it well and wouldn't worry to much about message board bluster. It is a positive when cooler heads prevail.

Excellent point.
