In response to the so-called "intimidation" of snowflake lefties and antifa quasi-terrorists by demonstrators openly carrying firearms, the mental defectives at the Southern Poverty Law Center are calling for states to restrict the ability of the people to carry at public gatherings. They point out that more than 40 states have preemption laws preventing local governments from making patchworks of asinine laws that would tramp all over the rights of the people. Really though, its not hard to read between the lines. Even though they don't explicitly say it (they couch it all in double speak and the rhetoric of "common sense") its not hard to tell that they want, as a first step to total disarmament of the people, to abolish our rights to open carry our firearms.

For the record, I abhor and despise the KKK, AN, and any other ultra nationalist/supremacy group you care to name. But, as citizens of the USA, they still have the same rights as the rest of us, and this I'll defend.

It is an embarrassment to me, as a native Alabamian, that the SPLC has its headquarters in my state. Btw, you should walk past their offices some day and take a look at the "goon squad" they have guarding it. They didn't much care for me walking past, on a public sidewalk and on the other side of the street, while open carrying. I just ignored them and kept on walking.

Strange how the SPLC wants more of the same sort of laws that were passed with the intention of disarming newly freed Negro slaves. It's almost as though they have not learned from history and are intent on repeating it.

Here in Idaho it will not happen. The Idaho Constitution is very clear on right to keep and bear arms and the Idaho Supreme court clearly ruled that no internal government body can restrict the open carry of arms. The SPLC can suck it!

how on earth can "WE" learn from history when everyone can't agree what the history actually is?

Lordy, then to be able to apply those lesson(s) balanced across the board to satisfy everyone's unique understanding of the history as they believe the lesson applies to.

(humm'g softly...wish i was in the land of cotton; olde times there are not forgotten; look away, look away look away, Dixie Land)

Now we know the true colors of the SPLC.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/22/entertainment/george-clooney-donation-combat-hate-groups/index.html
George and Amal Clooney have joined the fight against hate groups in the United States.

The couple, through the The Clooney Foundation for Justice, have made a $1 million donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that will fund a joint initiative to combat hate groups.
It is amazing that Clooney gives $1M to a hate group to combat hate groups.

Hey be careful!

If you post something about SPLC they will be mad and put us on their watch list. :D

In all seriousness, it is the SPLC that tries to supress our civil rights. They equate political correctness with moral authority. Clooney the looney gave 'em money because their main slush fund donor, obama, can't really help them any more.

Fork 'em, I'd not only walk on the same side of the street but find a reason to linger a while!

If the government can deem any public place a " sensitive area's/places.. that shall become the issue.. They may someday say, any area outside the home is a sensitive area/place.. We know how the G loves to create terms and slowly subtract rights.

F350 - a wonderful idea.
SFC - perhaps you could "arrange" to meet a friend (another OCer?) in FRONT of the SPLC. Then, have a third person nearby with a camera to record any harassment by the SPLC people.

Does anyone live in Montgomery, AL? I may be travelling down your way and, depending on timing, would be willing to meet @ 400 Washington Ave, 36104.

I came across this today:

http://freebeacon.com/issues/southern-poverty-law-center-transfers-millions-in-cash-to-offshore-entities/

Southern Poverty Law Center Transfers Millions in Cash to Offshore Entities

Left-wing non-profit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to top management

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a liberal, Alabama-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that has gained prominence on the left for its "hate group" designations, pushes millions of dollars to offshore entities as part of its business dealings, records show.

Additionally, the nonprofit pays lucrative six-figure salaries to its top directors and key employees while spending little on legal services despite its stated intent of "fighting hate and bigotry" using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is perhaps best known for its "hate map," a collection of organizations the nonprofit deems "domestic hate groups" that lists mainstream conservative organizations alongside racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and is often referenced in the media. A gunman opened fire at the Washington, D.C., offices of the conservative Family Research Council in 2012 after seeing it listed as an "anti-gay" group on SPLC's website.

The SPLC has turned into a fundraising powerhouse, recording more than $50 million in contributions and $328 million in net assets on its 2015 Form 990, the most recently available tax form from the nonprofit. SPLC's Form 990-T, its business income tax return, from the same year shows that they have "financial interests" in the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. No information is available beyond the acknowledgment of the interests at the bottom of the form. ...

... "I've never known a US-based nonprofit dealing in human rights or social services to have any foreign bank accounts," said Amy Sterling Casil, CEO of Pacific Human Capital, a California-based nonprofit consulting firm. "My impression based on prior interactions is that they have a small, modestly paid staff, and were regarded by most in the industry as frugal and reliable. I am stunned to learn of transfers of millions to offshore bank accounts. It is a huge red flag and would have been completely unacceptable to any wealthy, responsible, experienced board member who was committed to a charitable mission who I ever worked with." ...

Just wanted to let you know that this probably more a response to armed leftists than the armed Unite the Right. I was in Charlottesville, there were FAR more guns from the leftists than the rightists unless you count the police and the National Guard as right.

Gun control is almost never a response to the right having guns...but see Governor Reagan for what happens when the communists start open carrying... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act

And please don't call SPLC left-wing. There is NOTHING left-wing about disarming people. I'm pretty sure what you mean is neoliberal, which is an ideology of the corporatist, globalist center-right.

Surely RadBanker, you are not referring to Huey Newton & Bobby Seales' Black Panthers for Self Defense, an African American revolutionary group, founded to protect black neighborhood's citizens as a communist entity?

Do you happen to have any objective evidence to substantiate this gross generalization since my funk and wagall's state communist is a philosophical concept where there is a totalitarian form of government run by an singular authoritarian controlling everything?

I do not remember Huey or Bobby advocating sedition, except to P.O. JEHoover who worked tirelessly, to discredit the founders, members, and the group as a whole. perhaps you are remembering those biased headlines?
