<snip> Edit: One last question about ammo. Do the shot shell rounds damage the rifling in a rifled barrel? (rat shot / snake shot)

I wouldn't be worried at all about the rifling of my gun as that water moccasin was swimming up to me!!! ;)

I had seen somewhere else on the forum, someone immersing their gun in I think alcohol to get all the water out, then letting it dry and oiling it up. Not sure but ask your local gunstore what they think the best way to treat it when it gets dropped in the swamp. :) If all those boating accidents (that are so common) had happy endings there may be more of a response on how to get the water out. I would think some ex-Navy Seal could chime in on what waterproofing/expunging techniques they use.

I have a GP100 .357 Magnum 4 inch. I replaced the stock grip with Hogue Recoil Tamer Grip, I can shoot full-house rounds for an extended period of time now with no issues now. My 17 yo daughter, who liked the gun previously, now loves it!

GP100? Let me put it this way: To this very day I still harbor ill feelings for Bill Ruger's role in the AWB 94 and nothing in my armory bears his name. The 4" GP100 is the only thing that tempts me to break that standing.

while i agree with you on the GP 100, nothing beats the beautiful Colt Python.

The Colt Python was a great gun. Most would agree, probably even the best production made .357 on the market. However given that they have been out of production for several years (since 1999) it's not a good comparison.

Before buying my stainless Ruger GP100 with 6" barrel, I also considered the Smith & Wesson Model 19. I favored the lug barrel on the GP100, the rosewood/rubber grips and most especially the cylinder release button. I also like the lifetime warranty on my Ruger. I've sent it in to Ruger once after the lockwork went out of timing and refused to fire the last round. Ruger took care of everything at their expense and sent my gun back looking like new.

Nope. The CCI shot capsules are plastic...won't hurt your rifling on bit. And the shot inside the capsules are lead, again, not a problem for a gun barrel.
