Bad idea to make them always come to you. That's not terribly good advice. Not only do you run every percentage of the same chance they are going to pull the same crap, but you are showing them where you live, and where the vehicle is stored/how it's stored.

A "Public Place" would be great too, but frankly, there isn't anything wrong with what he did. He went armed, and although he was clearly not mentally prepared for the task that day, he was physically capable of defending himself, and he even brought backup. Now that's smart!

I make a habit of not showing the pink slip until I have seen the green. That way, if its bogus, they don't have paperwork showing them where I live.

Just a couple of thoughts.
I have to agree. I use several Yahoo sites for free/for sale items, and I never, EVER have people come to my home. Even when we sold a window AC unit, we took it to the buyer. Sensible precautions, like meeting in a public place, going armed, etc. are all great, and this man and his girlfriend were prepared. Safest, if in doubt, is meet in a public place, in an area you KNOW is safe, and populated. In this fellow's case, he should have told them to get the money then meet him back in a safe location. X amount of time he would wait, and then he was gone. Most times, it isn't a planned scam, but you never know.

When we were in Florida, a member of one of those groups posted about something that happened to her. She agreed to meet someone to exchange an item, and the location was public, but pretty secluded (a park or something, in the evening). This guy tried to attack her, and she barely got away. Good reason to not go alone, or not go unarmed. 99 out of 100 such encounters could be safe, but it's that one you have to be ready for!

LOL that's a good one!

Love the idea of BUBs, too. Back up boyfriends for independent females!

Well, except for the under 32, good shape, single, and 6'5". I'm your man.
But wife doesn't share, except for her speed loaders, brought up sharing
and was told over my dead body.

Still want to know if the girlfriend was shooting out drivers window weak arm,
parked perpendicular to sale car and shot strong arm across chest, or came
out of car and used door for cover.

When shooting out of the driver's door, weak hand, I have found that you have to remember to change sight eye also :cool:So, work on sighting with dominate eye and weak side eye or you get a crick in your neck leaning over to bring dominate eye into postition:lol:

With a lot of range time, and practice, you can actually leave both eyes open for the engagement, and be very accurate.

In order to sweep a target zone, it is a practice a lot of soldiers and marines get into the habit of. Situational Awareness is key.

Sweeping with one eye closed leaves a blindspot. Sweeping with both open seemingly allows less precision, until you adapt, and practice.

Admittedly I have less trigger time behind the sights of a pistol, and the short length may play an enormous role in target acquisition, but at the range in the Army I would repeatedly shoot 38-39/40, both eyes open.

That way fast freddy couldn't piss me off.
