Early This morning two 21 YOIowa men tried to rob the East 4th St. Liquor Store with a .22 LR Long Gun and a .22 caliber pistol. This store has been robbed already a few times once ending in a store clerk taking a round to the arm.

Neither suspect fired a shot but 65 YO store clerk Johnny Sanders opened fire with a revolver that was apparentlystanding by for just such an occasion. One suspect dropped where he was shot and the other made it to the door before falling in the doorway. Robert Maurice Bolden, 21, of Waterloo, died at the scene of the shooting. Antonio McNeal Sproles, 21, of Waterloo, died a short time later at Allen Hospital.

I hate to hear of these situations ending in death but it's good to see the innocent victims of crimes prevail since they are not the only ones with a gun. It also sucks that 21 year old men have nothing better to do than wage their lives for the contents of a cash drawer at 1:00 in the morning.

Apparently there has been a rash of recent robberies in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, including last Friday's armed holdup at Kwik Star on Broadway Street where a clerk was bludgeoned with a pistol.
