I OC'd at OnCue in Norman (Lindsey&Classen) which is a popular place for Norman PD, OUPD, and CCSO to go for drinks and a clean bathroom. A Norman PD officer struck up a conversation with me as I was checking out, and he asked me what I was carrying, and I told him, he told me he liked the new law, and believed in it's deterance effect. I told him who I was with and invited him to attend one of our lunches, he has one of my cards, and he said he will come to lunch with us and check out our organization.

Anytime you get a chance to talk to LEO's is a great oppertunity to further OC in OK, I have yet to run into one that does not object to the new law.

I've recently been asked not to open carry at church. I'm of course, not overly pleased about this change, especially now that we (as a state) made this step toward freedom.

I wrote an article about it a couple weeks ago: http://www.kennethbaucum.com/guns-at-church

Does anyone know of a Baptist church in the Tulsa area that allows/supports/encourages open carry at church?

just out of curiosity KENNTH. could you ask them why they don't believe in the word of Jesus the Christ. look up John 36;22. in this text he was telling the followers to arm themselves for self defense, with a weapon, that was up to date (for those time), and not concealable

if a church does not want to teach the word of Jesus, then i would highly recommend you find one that does

I OC often and have not had any issues. What I have learned is a little different is if you have someone with you but that are behind you and others do not know they are part of your party. You might try it some time. The person that was in my party but a distance behind me told me people were noticing and whispering. Think I will try it again in a few months to see if there is any difference.

Excellent!

The two Ok. County sheriff officers I met a few weeks ago were very similar. One was in favor of it and "loved it", the other said he totally supports it and has no problem with it, just personally chooses to conceal when not on duty. Both were very nice and supportive

Evergreen Baptist
111th between Mingo and Garnett
I have OC'd there on many occasions without a single word said. Pastor had a wednesday night lesson on the issue. You could probably find the talk online somewhere. I am not a member there, but our daughter goes to AWANA class on wednesday nights there. If the family were not firmly planted where we are now, Evergreen would probably be our next choice.

Skiatook and Owasso Wal-Marts seem okay with OC so far.

I live in Skiatook and often shop in both Skiatook and Owasso Wal-Mart and have not yet had any bad experiences. Before open carry was allowed, the Skiatook ammo counter guy was talking to a few customers and he said, "I'd feel safer knowing my customers were carrying.", so I lifted my shirt a bit, revealing my 1911 a little and said, "I got your back if anything happens." and he said he was glad to know that his customers would protect him since he couldn't carry while working.

Welcome to OCDO Imeidl.

Now you don't have to let people sneak peeks at your personal hand tool. You can proudly carry it as the Rt. Rev. John Moses Browning intended, basking in the fair light of the day. :D

Last night my family and 3 other families went to the Tulsa Music Festival at Guthrie Green, near the Drillers Stadium. I was the only OC I saw at the event, other than LEO. One gentleman asked about carrying, so I gave him the basics and sent him to this site. Later we walked down the block and had dinner on the patio at Cas's restaurant, no problems there either. Food was OK, service was hit or miss, don't need to go back. All in all, another non-event.

Submarina

Went and ate lunch yesterday at a sub shop called Submarina yesterday (located in the shopping center on the NE corner of Danforth and Santa Fe in Edmond). Owner placed a pro carry sign by the door. Talked to him for a bit as I was waiting for my food. Come to find out, his insurance company threatened to not insure him because of his pro carry sign. They finally relented but told him he was not allowed to carry his firearm. Not a bad place to go.

My daughter stayed home with me yesterday, so we had a good daddy/daughter day. Visited several lumberyards looking for a louvered vent that I didn't find, stopped at Steve's tools on 51st, lunch at Arby's, then off to Claremore to visit the FIL. Stopped in the lumberyard in Claremore, still didn't find the vent, but as I was leaving, a county sheriff's deputy opened the door for us and just smiled and went on his way. OC'd for all of this, no problems, no worries.

My in-laws own an independent insurance agency in Claremore. I talked to them about insurance carriers threatening businesses that allowed open carry. His experience has been that none of his clients have had an insurance company try to tell them that they can or cannot allow open or concealed carry on premises. If there are insurance companies out there trying to restrict carry, there are others willing to write the insurance either way.
I have seen many comments about insurance companies forcing insured's to not allow open carry. What I wonder is if it is the insurance underwriters doing this, or is it possibly the agent or broker thinking that the companies won't allow, so they don't want to raise the issue with the companies, so they raise it with their clients.

Been all over the place in Tulsa and BA the last few days, Wal-Mart in BA at 121st and Elm several times, looks but nothing else. QT at 111st and Elm several times, no issue. Cheddars on 71st last night, looks but no issue. Bass Pro, Academy, Bentley park in Bixby, BUT I meet my wife and kids at the Chick Fil A on 101st and memorial drive in front of the Spirit Bank Center wed night and was standing in line ordering food when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a guy, late 30s standing in the line to my right and slightly behind me about 5 feet from me franticly pointing to my gun and waving at the kid taking orders in his line, as soon as he saw that I noticed him he looked away tried to play like he was unaware of what was going on, I looked back at the counter (ignoring him) and he immediately started doing it again! the kid behind the counter looked at my gun looked at the guy and shrugged like “what do you want me to do about it?” I ordered, went and sat with my family and ate my meal, and the guy took the small fries he ordered and sat where he could see me and stared at me while scowling and furiously texting on his cell the whole time, but he would not make eye contact. I finished my meal and took the kids to the park, first time I have had that reaction, I may have asked if there was a problem had I not been out with my young children but though it best to just ignore it.

That is when having a state flier might have really paid off. You could have then simply passed by his table and left the flyer on the far side, then exited w/o any interaction.

Is it legal to carry on a boat?

I don't know of any law that would make it illegal to carry a firearm in a boat in Oklahoma. However most lakes are on Army Corp of Engineer land, and it is illegal to carry a firearm on Corp land unless you are hunting or fishing. Even when honting or fishing, the gun must be unloaded while you are moving about the land.

To keep the thread going - Subway at 81st and Garnett, young man that ran the register thanked me for open carrying and said he couldn't wait to be old enough to be able to carry. I pointed him to this site and OKOCA.org
Chili's in Durant - have eaten there several times in the past few weeks and not a word was mentioned. Only problem is they keep trying to seat me in the bar area. I am travelling and eating alone, so they probable think I would prefer that, obviously they don't see the Glock at 3 oclock.
Sears parts store - large sign that says that all employees, vendors, suppliers etc, are prohibited, but not a word about customers. The guy at the parts counter was very helpful, never mentioned the glock.
