Correct me if I am in error but I recall information that SD was very friendly to carry except on a motorcycle. And there were other specific limits regarding Sturgis.

You may be thinking of the hunting statutes (basically) that don't allow carrying a loaded firearm on a motorcycle or off road vehicle.

If you have a valid concealed carry license, you are exempt from that.

I've had no problems in South Dakota or Sturgis with an openly carried sidearm but then I also avoid the bars when carrying.

Rationale, as discussed out here in nauseating depth, boils down to, you want the congress to mandate and oversee the Nation’s citizens carry requirements, such as knowledge & live-fire training and so forth... when they can’t even manage themselves ?

‘Sides they are way too busy chasing ghosts & goblins or defending against same but the good news is some are taking time out of the chase/defense mode as there is talk of a new bill being introduced regarding mandating World Cup to pay the females the same as the men...

What leads you to having such a cynical view of our great leaders of this nation?

Ghost1958,

In Florida there are the perpetual "bills" that get brought up every year by know-nothing politicians attempting to get their 15 minutes of allotted media exposure with the following legislation, most of which has already died in committee.

Florida Carry Legislation Page

Other than those, I don't see anything significant for Open Carry on the horizon. I think that boat sailed in 2017 when the RINO's torpedoed any chances we really had.

YES, YES, YES, FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS! NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING IN FLORDA, LIKE OTHER STATES ARE, WHY NOT?? I ALWASY OPEN CARRIED UNTILL 1987 WHEN RENO FROM MIAMI I'M SURE YOU REMBER HER, SHE WAS ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR THE US DURING THE WACO FEASCO, WELL WHEN SHE DIDN'T GET REELECTED SHE CAME BACK FL. AND SHE AND THE CURRENT GOV. OF FL. AT THAT TIME MADE IT ILLIGAL TO OPEN CARRY IN FL. AND TOOK OVER THE CONCEALD CARRY POWER FROM THE COUNTIES AND STARTED SELLING PERMITS TO CONCEAL ONLY. THAT GOV. NAME WAS HERNANDES I THINK, HIS DAUGHTER JUST RAN FOR A POSITION IN OUR LEGISATION THIS LAST ELECTION AND LOST THANK GOD,AND THATS WHY WE NO LONGER HAVE OPEN CARRY HERE. SO UNTIL WE GET RID OF THE MIAMI CROWD, AND THE OUTHER OUT OF STATE DEMOCRATS THAT COME HERE AS THEY SAY "TO RETIRE" AND MOVE INTO OUR STATE HOUSE, AND SOME OF THE SUPREAM COURT JUDGES I DON'T THINK WE WIIL HAVE OUR OC RIGHTS BACK IN THIS STATE . FOR A LONG TIME, SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS, BROKEN KEYBOARD.

Just as I'm breathing new life into this thread ;-) ...

I believe the Bruen decision will breathe new life into the fight against the ban on open carry in a handful of states. Florida's "gun-rights-friendly" politicians should have fixed this years ago. Will they do it when they convene again? Who knows?

Gov. DeSantis has blown a little smoke about "Constitutional Carry", but has never forcefully (at least not publicly) demanded he get a bill on his desk pronto.

Are they waiting for a court to rule on it? I'm hoping those who have been convicted of it as a crime (as otherwise lawful carriers) will file suit to have their convictions overturned.

The funny thing is that although I started this thread 7 years ago (😱) pretty much nothing has changed and I'm still OC'ing on a daily basis with zero problems.

The legislators can bring up new business but in the end, it boils down to a single individual lawmaker to "decide" if it gets moved on to any kind of vote.

Obviously that never happens so we just spin our wheels year after year.
