And by what method do you determine they are perfectly able bodied? To look at my oldest son, 6'3" 195, 32 years. 5 healed fractures in his spine, spinabifida, for starters.
Sorry to hear about your son Trigger, but he would probably be better off on disability, not welfare.
I am talking about the families I see, that have a cart full of junk food, and the whole family is there, Mom and Dad who look to be in their late 20's, Gold cap grill work done on his front teeth, he is covered in tat's, she has manicured nails with fancy designs, 3 kids in tow. They seperate all their food and then a bunch of clothes that they paid cash for, and when you get out on the parking lot you see them packing everything around the big speaker in the back of their Cadillac Escalade with oversized chrome wheels and tires. I see this quite often, not always a cadi is the ride of choice.
EBT benefits are not "awarded" on the basis of an inability to work. They are made available on the basis of income. With today's unemployment (just under 10% reported but more like 20% REAL) expect to see more of them. The program is there to provide basic nutrition. I have no problem with those who are looking for work but need EBT to feed themselves and family. My issue is with those who refuse to accept work in times like this because "that job is beneath me" or "isn't in my Union job classification".
Yes, there are those who could work but won't. And there are those who would do any kind of work they could find but can't find any. Just watching someone using an EBT card doesn't give you a clue as to which is which.
I dont think is is for the lack of jobs, it is the lack of high paying jobs, that wont allow someone to live at the standard they think they should, or because the job may be to hard. When I was unemployed, we tried to get my daughter medical through DSHS, we didnt want food stamps, or money, just medical, and they said I made too much. There are blind people working, there are parapalegics that are working. I see help wanted signs everywhere. McDonalds is almost always hiring. It is more personal choice. Sorry but I believe those who do not have jobs, dont have them by choice.
Welfare is a failed system that is destroying our retirement. I wanted to retire at 65 not 67, who knows what the age will be when I get there. Welfare should be food lines providing rice, beans, milk, oranges, etc, just what is nescassary. Not Doritos, and Twinkies. Why not make it like unemployment you get out of it, just what you put in by working? It definitely should not be available to illegal immigrants, or the 80,000 + muslim immigrants Obummer is bringing into the US by executive order without background checks (heres another reason to carry). They will start on welfare and some will get jobs that are available that nobody thought was good enough. If we closed the borders until we get our country straightened back out, then deport all the Illegals, There would be plenty of jobs, all those on welfare could be given a job and if they didnt like the one given to them they could go and apply somewhere else of their choice.
This guy is not on welfare.

And I dont mind if you consider me cold hearted. I dont think anyone should get something for nothing.
