lol.

Roll pins anyone?

BTW:

Brass punches and a mallet + magnetic tray. Put large parts in the dishwasher and reevaluate after.

What's in the ammo cans?

1911 frames will not warp under high heat either...

I have read threads in other forums. For the record, I do not accept forums posts as cites. But it is interesting that some of those posts CLAIM that after using a heat gun to mold kydex around their tupperware guns the mags will no longer fit in the mag well. Go figure:lol:

And Grapeshot, most leather holsters can be hot waxed treated to not absorb moisture, and makes them as tough as kydex. I have treated most of my holsters, except for ones made with quality veg tanned leather. Those are treated with a acrylic sealer on the inside, and Kiwi on the outside. Unless dunked in water they do not hold moisture. The only problem with acrylic is it grips the gun, acting as retention, but does slow draw slightly. Should not be used no competition holsters, hot wax will make competition holster slick as snot for revolvers. On autos the plastic nature of waxed leather grips a gun on the trigger guard and ejection port.

Hot waxed leather was used for ages as armor, against blade attacks.

Wrap 'em in tin foil - works for heads too. :p

If you use dishwasher use no soap. Hopefully the washer heats the water hot enough to turn the rust to black oxide. If not, after degrease submerge rusted parts in distilled boiling water for 15 minutes. Rub parts with very fine steel wool, or course fabric after they cool.

FYI some manufacturers now have tupperware 1911's. AND some manufacturers are making quality alloy frames for Glock slides and parts.

Oh. Well, then, he failed the qualification test. If you need tools to break down your 1911, then you're not man enough to own one. Certainly, I didn't need any tools to break down the one I lost in a tragic boating accident. :p:)

I can just see ol' Chesty Puller now. "I need a bushing wrench to clean my pistol." Hhahahahahahaha!! Not!

Got a full size 1911 for which I bought a .22 cal conversion kit - took it to a training course, forgot my bushing wrench....nobody including Marco could remove the barrel bushing manually. Had to borrow enough .45 ACP to complete the course.

Other 1911 only requires use of two thumbs (have sufficient number) to disassemble.

P90 (el cheapo hunting pistola), XD40 (my only "Tupperware" pistola, gotta keep up with that Jones feller), old timey Colt 1911 (without the A1), S&W Model 60 stainless .38 (1965, first year of production, S&W bubba on the phone he say: NO +P!!! ammo EVER!!!!) and a few other throw down pistolas and gats. Some long guns and more shotguns than needed.....but these are for a different forum.

The pictures are post Katrina pictures. Those are not the only ones, there are a lot of them. A member of another site posted his pics of his confiscated Glock where the slide rusted off of the plastic frame. The NOLA police must have stored them in a bucket of salt water.

But they do rust.

k. so im suppose to take your word for it? cause ive seen post katrina glocks that werent rusted. i never said they didnt rust. i said they can rust if the tennifer is chipped off. ive seen "run off" from springs or a trigger bar that made it look like the whole pistol rusted. but after cleaning it was just rust running off something else and never damaged the barrel or slide. this one looks odd cause the trigger looks melted or damaged in some way. but since you say it was from karina and flood salt water remember that water gets contaminated with gas, oil, chemicals and all sorts of stuff. so i wonder if exposed to gas long enough if it would take the tennifer off? iv never seen that dont before.

lol, I don't really give a damn.

Glocks rust. QED.

Edit: Since you seem confused, and I'm not actually trying to be a jerk, I'll let you in a little secret: the "tennifer" itself can rust. :uhoh:

Rust-resistant does not mean rust-proof.

huh weird. cause the tennifer is treatment process. not actual metal. so you never proved your photo to be real. isnt one of the rules to prove your claims on here? so does it come from a credible source?

The photo is real, and Glocks do rust, NO gun is maintenance free. Your claims of it not credible against a long standing member of reliability, when you are such a short timer smells of provocateur.

Do you honest think he went out and bought a Glock so he could paint it with rust colored paint to post on a forum. A picture IS a cite, if you can prove it is fake, Go For It. Otherwise you owe Marshaul an apology.

Almost all metal forms oxidation, that is why in the marine industry they use sacrificial anodes. If you do not maintain a Glock the metal parts will deteriorate just like a all steel gun. And even if a all steel gun browns, it does not make it non functional. Some of us love the rich plum brown finish of antique firearms. Guess what, that is treated rust. Guess what rust blue is boiled rust. The tenifer treatment is? (drum roll) a sulphate and salt bath treatment. Chemically treated RUST.

Please before you challenge someone who has garnered respect, do your homework.

And you are wrong, the tenifer treatment makes a chemical change to (drum roll again) METAL.

False.

Ferritic nitrocarburizing is a range of case hardening processes that diffuse nitrogen and carbon into ferrous metals at sub-critical temperatures. The processing temperature ranges from 525 °C (977 °F) to 625 °C (1,157 °F), but usually occurs at 565 °C (1,049 °F). At this temperature steels and other ferrous alloys are still in a ferritic phase, which is advantageous compared to other case hardening processes that occur in the austentic phase.

It's definitely "actual metal". It will rust under the right conditions.

And when it comes to claims like "Glawks rust", a picture is a cite (thanks WW). Again, you don't have to believe me. I really don't care. But if a photo doesn't convince you, nothing will. I could show you a real Glock with rust and you'd probably claim I sanded off all the "Tenifer" or something. ;)

considering i wasnt even talking to you i realize from your other posts im going to be sitting here pounding sand with you. you havnt read any of my other posts. and im not going to repeat what i said. and because you been here longer does trump everone else and make you credible. that is the stupidest thing i ever heard. apparently no one can speak against you cause you have been here longer. a picture is a cite? ha give me a break.

I wouldn't be giving you brown stuff if you were right, but not only are you new, and attacking a respected member~~YOU are absolutely wrong and don't know what you are talking about. The problem is not that you are new, the problem is you are posting bovine scatology and are new.

Post intelligently and people will not give you poop.

because it actually fuses into the metal. like i said im sitting here pounding sand and your boyfriend who had no part in the convo is chipping in as well. ive noticed you 2 are quite the team on here. i wont play into those games especially when you dont think you have to prove something because you have been here longer. such bs.

Again besides practicing trollery by posting insults that you make up, which besides making you a troll makes you a LIAR. You do not know what you are talking about. Finish such as rust, bluing, hardening are NOT a coating, let me repeat they are not a coating. They are a chemical conversion of the metal itself by use of chemicals and heat. You are sitting there pounding sand because you have no clue what you are talking about.

So far you are not doing so well convincing folks of your knowledge.

I didn't make the boyfriend remark, YOU DID. It was a lie, and that makes you a liar.

BTW did you not get banned the last time you were here, and then get banned again. Are you the plastic holster guy that hates leather holsters?

He was the only other person to do what you do, and make that boyfriend remark.

There really is only one thing you need to know about the 1911. They are single action only. You will always have to cock the trigger. Look for a 45APC pistol that is Double Action.
The 45 is, in my opimion the best home and self defence weapon.
Reminds me, I've had some people come up to me and say one of two things to me.

1. "Did you know your pistol is cocked?"

2. "Is that pistol cocked?"

My answer to both questions is always: Yes, that's the way it's meant to be carried, cocked, locked and loaded. That way, if I ever have to use it, all I have to do is push the safety off and pull the trigger.
