OC'd last night at the Food Lion neat Lynn Road and Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. Nobody seemed to care until I got to the checkout, when a young woman standing behind me got all bug-eyed and went to another checkout line. The cashier was quite friendly and asked what I was carrying (Beretta 70), and she didn't seem the least bit fazed.

I don't think I will ever understand the fear that some people have of handguns. It can be so over the top, it's incredible. I have a co-worker I talk guns with on occasion (lets call him Guy A) and he told me how another co-worker of ours (lets call him Guy B) was completely freaked out by just the sight of a rifle round. Guy A had been hunting prior to coming to work and had a round in his pocket that he had forgotten about. He was discussing something with Guy B (who, by the by is from Australia) and he took out the round (I forget the caliber). He said that Guy B got real quiet, backed up and got all nervous from just the sight of the round so Guy A put it back in his pocket. To me, that's just insane but I guess if your brought up taught that guns are going to get up, walk over to you and kill you on their own, it's a reaction one would expect.

Went into town tonight with the kids and stopped by the Carlie C IGA and didnt seem to have any issues. I dont know how many people noticed but it was uneventful..which was good. My oldest boy who is 15 said that I got a few looks from folks, but other than that, it was business as usuall. To be honest the kids made me feel a little better than when I was by myself last weekend. Will start OC in the local towns and hope they are like it was tonight. If there is going to be anyone in the area this weekend let me know as I like talking to supporters of the 2nd Amendment and folks that like firearms in general.

If you go to the gun show in Fayetteville this weekend stop by the GRNC table and introduce yourself. Just ask for Charles

The show is at the Crown Coliseum in the Charlie Rose Building. When you enter the show they will unload and tie wrap your firearm. Has to do with insurance. Yea I know someone will chime in and say its because state law says you can't enter because its a paid admission.

Charles,

Are you going to be there all day? I am going to try to get my father in law to go as well.

great day!

Today I OC'd for the first time ever. I was in huntersville and charlotte. Had two people ask if I was an LEO, and had a great opportunity to educate a couple of people at the wal mart in mooresville. The only "hitch" I had was a young guy at gander mtn in mooresville that didn't know how to handle me not being there to get my gun fixed he kept telling me he would need to lock my weapon up but all I had to do was explain that I was legally carrying and he said alright so no big deal there. I do want to say that I will not be doing business with carmax ever again as they do not allow open carry. All in all a great first experience that only makes me excited for more.

Edited because it made no sense due to me posting in a comatose tired state.

Glad your first day went good! I am assuming the gander mountain you stopped at was the one in Greensboro? I have OC'ed there without problems but I have heard other people being bugged about locking it up for the gunsmith. I have even talked to customer service about gift cards while OC'ing and no one has said anything. I guess it just depends on who is there that day.

Next time tell him to check the sign at the front door (just inside the front door, its a big sign) that says only guns being brought in to be fixed need to be unloaded and cased, all other legal open and concealed carry is welcome. Last time I was there and saw that sign, got a big smile on my face.

Lol yeah the sign was the first thing I read before I went in and I was so excited to walk in I was happy man. Today I carried in a subaru dealership and had only one problem with a man from ohio that didn't know about our open carry laws.

I'm fairly new to open carry, BUT so far I have only had one problem in Greensboro. See my other thread, agrressiveness towards oc'ing) I've gone to walmart on wendover, the lowes, calibers, pier one, and a few others. People notice but then they go on with their lives. I do have a safe installed in my vehicle in case I want/need to leave in car. At least I ALWAYS have it with me when driving places even if they don't allow oc. While driving its on my front or rear seat within reach, and then either locked up in car or on my hip depending on where I'm at and whether allowed or not.

Last night went out with the soon to be wifey (December 8th, 2011). Been staying local to New Bern, went into Wal-Mart, IHOP, and Pawn Shop across from Golden Corral and had no problems at all. Got a few looks but other than that nothing.

One event that did happen while in Wal-Mart was had some gangster types start coming down the aisle my wife was on and they were almost stalknig towards her like they had ill intentions and I was on the end of the aisle not visable, to prevent anything from escalating I decieded to be proactive and when I stepped out with my hand resting above the pistol the three guys stopped looked at it, looked at my eyes and then backed away turned around and walked the other way. I didn't tell the wife what had just happened behind her back. I feel stupid though cause if I would have had to draw in this situation my wife would have been in the cross fire. I felt that this prevented something but maybe I just perceived there actions wrong. But this lives up to one of the reasons I carry "I don't have a gun cause I am inadequte, but I do have one because being unarmed against an armed thug I am inadequte."

Any feed back on this is welcomed, positive or negative.

You should never attempt to touch your handgun or visually threaten anyone with it unless you are sure that your life is in danger. OC'ers trying to intimidate someone is the reason that a lot of people dislike open carry. The mere presence of your gun should had been enough to scare the thugs off if they had ill intentions.
