Hi Folks

The large news outlets are reporting a mistrial in this case however I acquiesce to the local news media on such an important issue..
If a SC member could update, much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Last report I read was that the trial judge had declared a mistrial as the jury reported that it could not come to a unanimous decision. He did not (as far as I could see) say that another trial could not be held.

Thank you Nighmare for the post. Watching a replay of the shooting, if that video is not enough to convict than I fear nothing but a point blank shot to the back of the head would render convicting a LEO...Hopefully the new trial will render justice..

People are afraid of retaliation ... and some people are just plain stupid. One juror in this case...which is it? We'll never know (or even for some other reason).

new trial ... the state doesn't care, they get paid anyway. I'm guessing that the police union is paying for this guy's legal fees ..... they got plenty of money.

national evening news stated the prosecutor is going to 'retry' but 'I am busy having to try the young man for the murders of nine church members.'

meanwhile, the nice individual who, on private citizen video, shot a traffic violator in the back numerous times is free on bond.

The state of SC is going to be short lots $$$$$ after the civil suit... Can the defendant actually argue that he felt his life was in danger from a man running away from him? I must research the case simply to just hear what the cowards defense was... Clearly we all know that if joe citizen was caught on video shooting another joe citizen in the back.... Blah blah, we know the result... Hopefully justice will be served on the coward, a coward that gives other LEOS and the human race a horrible reputation..

I just saw the video again and my irish blood is boiling. Clearly the coward firing the shoots had fully intention of murdering another human being..
Five to the BACK should and did get the job done... If that criminal is not convicted, it will be giving LEOS a supreme license to kill..
I need to go cool off...

and, does this verdict qualify for the defendant's legal bill to be to be paid from state coffers?

So I wasted my time posting the local news, that you didn't bother to read or that you struggled to understand? The civil award has already been made, $8.6MM IIRC.

The Courthouse at 'The Four Corners of Law' at Meeting Street and Broad Street is just six-ish blocks from Emmanuel AME Mother Church on Calhoun Street (once Boundary Street on the correct side) near Meeting Street, itself even closer to 330 Concord St. at Calhoun where I lived on the waterfront.

When I am near Charleston, I worship two blocks west on Calhoun Street at King Street at St. Matthews German Evangelical Lutheran Church, congregated in 1840.

The feds were doing the Rupp thing with Meeting/Broad infested with Fed Protective Service cars, TV vans, and local cops. Did not stop the carriages or the tourists.
