MD non-resident permits

I heard somewhere that Maryland is like Massachusetts. If you have a home state CCW permit and apply for the MD permit, that they will issue you a non-resident permit. Is this true or am I being fed a line?

MD resident permits are very hard to obtain. Non-resident permits for normal people are near impossible.

MD CCW permits are impossible. Don't waste any money on the application. You won't get one.

I thought that was the case. Never hurts to check tho. I know in MA you can get a non-res if you have a home state permit.

Maryland resident or non-resident permit...from the many attempts that I have heard and read about...not a chance. That is, unless you carry large amounts of cash/checks (legally) for deposits, or in the case of one very proactive community activist...pissed off enough drug dealers cleaning up the neighborhood to accumulate the quantity of death threats the State of Maryland deems acceptable to permitpersonal protection. I've seen folks fight cases in the courts, make appeals to the board, etc...

Short answer is NO. Maybe one day, just not today.

The issue in Maryland is that the issuing authority is the same for both in-state and out-of-state permits--the state police. They don't like to issue permits, to put it mildly.

That is differentfrom the situation in Massachusetts. In-state permits are issued by the local authorities and the ease/possibility of being issued a full permit varies according to the local chief LEO's feelings about the RKBA.Only out-of-state MA permits are issued by the state police and they are (or at least have been in the past) more reasonable about issuing permits to the degree that I have heard them described as "nearly shall-issue."

Of course the MA application is expensive--$100 application fee and the permit is only good for one year--but it is better than the situation in MD.

One guy I know who is a gun transporter likened the MSP reasonability/background check to that of getting TS clearance.

In MD you have to prove you need the gun, it isn't just assumed, like echo pointed out.

I "HAD" a (Classified) NATO WINTEL and I STILL couldn't get a permit! :cuss:

As others have pointed out already, there is no residency requirement for a MD permit, however it is just as impossible for the average Joe in MD as it is outside of MD to get one. The exceptions are of course people with lots of money on them or celebrities.
It really pisses me off knowing that Rosie Odonnel living in California has a better chance of getting a permit in MD than me as a state resident would.
