After 15 years of debate, many are tired of hearing of the gun registry or assume they have heard all of the arguments. This fatigue, combined with it being a highly polarizing topic, has allowed what little discussion there has been on Bill C-19 to centre on the elimination of the long-gun registry and the destruction of its data. But C-19 goes much farther. This Bill contains several important, yet little known, changes that will have serious implications for the safety of Canadians and the ability of police to investigate and solve gun crimes. With the Senate beginning its study of Bill C-19 in committee, we have one last opportunity to seriously consider the profound effects this Bill will have on gun control in Canada.
