So I lost my wallet, and went in to replace my CPL. To start off with, they still have the "no firearms" sign up on the door in front of their lobby. Not in the mood to argue that today, I picked up the phone they have in front of the door and told them I need to check my weapon. They told me to go ahead and come in and not to worry about it.
Then the catch-22. No picture ID, no CPL replacement. Well it's a police station, so I figured they could pull data up fairly easily. I spoke with a civilian supervisor, and then with Sgt. Paul Johnson, and Sgt. Johnson said he would have DOL send over a digital image of my ID and they could use that to verify my identity and start the process to replace my CPL.
Sgt. Johnson initially said I couldn't have my gun in the lobby, but it turns out that their commander had recently sent out a memo that the public part of the building was legal to carry in, so he commented that the signs need to come down.
The annoying thing is that it will take 5 days for me to get my replacement by mail, as I was told that the Chief will have to sign off the CPL before it is issued. I wasn't in the mood to try and climb that beuracratic mountain today, and just paid my $10 to get the replacement.
All in all the whole thing took mebbe 20 minutes and was fairly smooth, much smoother than I expected, and the staff was polite and professional the entire time.
I'm hoping then that they get that sign changed fairly quickly.
