I of course will defer to the legal beagles, but my training from Front Sight is two to the center of mass (and ALWAYS two to the center of mass) and if that does not stop the aggressive behavior, one to the cranio-occular cavity... Pretty good advice IMHO...

BTW -- +1 for the homeowner...

shooting

FYI, this was my friend and co-worker that did the shooting and he and his live in girlfriend are recovering slowly, this was the most serious, dramatic and SCARY event in their lives. My buddy is only about 5'10" 180lbs and he said the intruder was roughly 6'2" 220lbs, not to get into much detail but the intruder smashed his way into the front door, then found the bedroom door and smashed through that yelling and screaming, my buddy still in bed IN THE DARK lunges foward HARD and tackles him away from his girlfriend into a wall and knocks him down and give himself enough time to run and get his Beretta Couger 9mm and then the dude comes back lunging back at him again, then he shoots dark shadow center mass IN THE DARK and the dude goes down in 2 seconds.

Thank God dude went down, who knows what he could of done to them if he did not have a gun. Yes I know, if my buddy would of had a .40 or up dude might of went down faster or followed up with 2 more shots with the 9,etc. no "stable condition" would be reported and tax dollars would of been saved.

My buddy is still shook up and almost started to cry telling me the story, his body is still in shock too from the wrestling around, hes got a GIANT cut on his head.

This is going to be a looong year for him with court, etc.

That's a bizarre conclusion to draw from my comment. In case I wasn't clear, by "stay put" I meant not running away from the cops into someone's house where you get shot.

I understood what you were saying, and I quite agree with you. :D

Glad yer buddy & his SO are (relatively) ok. Caliber is irrelevant. Shot placement is key. I'd say going down in 2 seconds is pretty darn good. Even if he'd completely removed the guy's heart with a .50BMG there's still enough blood left in the arteries for 2 seconds more of "up."

It'll get better for him over time, emotionally speaking. It's a long hard road back to feeling kinda 'normal' after this sort of event imho.
