The risk of conducting these raids dramatically increases the likelihood of death to either an officer or a suspect with little additional advantage.

+1 for your conclusion.

They really aren't just no-knock, they are home assaults. Many are done with ordinary knock and announce warrants. Do away with home assaults except in extraordinary situations.

The Md. Mayor and Ryan Frederick warrants were plain old warrants, turned into full blown home invasions.

I'll do you one better: not just eliminate no-knock warrants, but eliminate militarized police units, or at least reserve them for circumstances where it is expected to meet armed resistance. Using them in an attempt to keep criminals from "Flushing the evidence" is where the problem really lies.

The way to capture these violent criminals and prolific drug suppliers is to simply pick them up when they are out and about, not expecting to be arrested. A bit of surprise, and the vast majority of the time, these people can be arrested with no danger to anyone. Instead, they choose to break down the door of their residence (where the criminal has the tactical advantage) and rush in. That's not only dangerous, it's tactically STUPID. If they are worried about the drug dealer flushing his 20 pounds of coke, why don't they just pick him up when he goes out for cigarettes, then execute their search warrant on an empty house. No one gets hurt, and they get their evidence.

I'd be willing to be that in 99.9999999% of cases, a militarized police unit just makes the situation MORE dangerous for everyone.

I agree. The "War on Drugs" has been going on for 40 years, and its getting worse instead of better.

Anything you let the cops do to someone else, they can do to you!
