Hogue or Crimson Trace?

My crimson trace is hard plastic. Personally, I'm a big fan of both grips, I have 2 pistols with crimson trace and another 2 with hogue grips. If you really want a laser on the pistol go with CT, otherwise I'd go with hogue.

I'm with you on the rail systems. My OC gun is an XD45, and with rails it does not fit in the Serpa holster (another item I love) so I put CT laser on it.

Not even worth it then. I like Hogues over anything I have touched since Pacs went to crap. The problem I have is I need to buy grips for the wife...thinking CTs would be nice for her cause the Unkie mikes hurt after a few. She seems to like the 357 rather than the 38's ha. Hearing that makes me wanna get some ivory ones for mine though haha

If your looking for comfort, Hogue is definatelythe way to go. CT makes a great product also, only they have a different market in mind. As with any firearm, how to set it up depends on what its use will be and what you want out of it.

Hope your wife likes it. I have a .357 (Taurus Tracker) with hogue grips myself and it is a blast to shoot.

If you like the old composite-nylon Hogue Monogrips, you'll be happy with the CTs insofar as comfort, with the added bonus of an INTEGRATED laser sight that turns on without any additional action when you grip the weapon.

I have CT on my Springfield XD Subcompact and really enjoy them not only for the grip but the laser and what it has to offer.
For my personal use I would not buy a laser mounted rail.

There are some misconceptions as to the use of a laser though.
During daylight or well lighted areas the laser will do you no good, they how ever are great for dim or in darkness.

In the CT one can use their index finger to interrupt the laser or a lighter grip to deactivate it so one does not give their position away to easily.

In dusty areas a laser will light up as well which can give your position away but again it is easily resolved by a lighter grip until ready to shoot or just raising your trigger finger a little higher and block the laser.

It is very helpful when practicing trigger control in dry firing and another instance for eye hand coordination as point shooting. Much like the dry fire, have your firearms unloaded using snap caps point at an object in a safe area and activate your laser, it will tell you if you were close or not.

Shooting from different position that would not lend to using your open sights as laying on the ground shooting.

Many well bring up the issue if the battery goes out you are sunk, well that is not true.
My first set of batteries were still working fine after a year but I changed them out as Crimson Trace will send you free set of batteries for life if you register your product.

I go for my open sights first and while acquiring my target and I see the laser I use it.

I have not had good luck with night sights but I do like the CT.

Only experience I have with Hogue is the grip on my AK-47. Single best mod I did to that rifle. Made it feel like a completely different gun. I like my rail system and red-dot on that gun too. I havn't found anything I'm happy with for my Colt Mustang or Ruger P97DC.

If CT & Houge could put a little style in their grips I might get a set but until then, these will have to do for my 1911 ....

+1

A laser will help out a TON with trigger control.

After you age into bi-focals (or more) the depth of focus of your eyes in dim light collapses to the point where night sights are merely a bright blur until you can align the correct pane of your glasses. This old fart gives three cheers for the laser sight! :D

I'd rather that the goblin see a red dot on his chest, followed by a hole, rather than a pair of pretty grips.
