Don't take it too personally, I think Hess just has some problem with Swedish Mausers. Maybe some Swede ticked him off in the past. :uhoh:

See my post on p.4 of this thread. I had roughly the same experience there about 10 years ago!

How could omeone have a problem with a Swedish Mauser?

It's still one of the great guns out there.

If you're military, the Marine Corps Exchange at Camp Allen has the BEST prices in town.
The Marine Corps Exchange sells firearms? I was unaware of that. I may have to swing by since that is but a mile or two from my house.
Also remember that you pay NO TAX, either.  I don't remember getting any FFL fees there, either.  What was on the tags of the AK and H&K USP is what I paid.
That is a very good point. 5% sales tax adds up fast on purchases that involve a comma.

Very true.

Is the MCE only for military personnel? Or can civilians purchase there as well?

I think this thread needs to be bumped back up. Anyway, I thought I'd update it a little.

I have been to Dominion Outdoors in Fishersville, VA a few times now and I can say in that area it's my favorite gun shop I've been to. Their prices seem decent. Some stuff seems high other stuff seems inline with most other dealers. It for sure wasn't Walmart price but several things I got were inline with Dicks Sporting Goods. The staff was very friendly and the selection was great. They had about anything you could ever want. One thing that I really liked about this shop is they seemed to have a lot of nice guns like Brownings, etc. I like decent guns like that and don't care to see most of the gun shops filled with High Points, and cheap Remingtons. This is the biggest reason Dominion Outdoors impressed me. They weren't at all like that and had a large selection of quality firearms.

I also checked out Runions Hunt & Fish in Harrisonburg, VA. I kind of have mixed feelings on this. I didn't purchase anything and just kind of looked around. Their prices seemed a little high but so do most gun shops I've been to in this area recently. They had a okay selection but the store wasn't huge or anywhere near it. It was small in comparison to Dominion Outdoors. I stood at the counter looking at what they had in stock gun wise and the guy working there was helping the guy in front of me. 2 guys were at the counter. He never said anything to me but a very nice lady from the register asked if I needed any help when she saw me waiting. She was very friendly and helpful. Overall, I liked this gun shop okay but I honestly didn't see anything I wanted in there and their prices seemed a little high too. This might be the kind of place I'd call to see if they had something I wanted before buying it to compare prices but I doubt I'd just stop in to check out their selection all that often like I would with some others.

I've also been to Nuckols a few times again and I like this shop okay and while it's kind of small they do have a pretty decent selection of guns. Some of the ammo being super expensive as in way more than anyone else during the shortage made me think twice before buying from them again. I still will purchase stuff from them but it's a lot rarer than before. I did get great service last time I went in there which is a plus. I like this shop too I just didn't like their prices during the shortage. I didn't even look at the prices on ammo this last time I was in there so I don't know what it sold for.

Gun shops I frequent include: Dominion Arms (OK,OK, kind-of Iwork there), Virginia Arms (best run shop IMHO) and Guns & Ammo Warehouse (very well run)in Manassas.

I alsotrade atLoudon Guns from time to time because they regularly have firearms in stock that other shopshave toorder. I normally only go when I have time to shoot the breeze for a while.

NoVA Armament just opened in downtown Herndon. I put a few things on consignment there to get some guns on the walls when they opened. Everyone there has been friendly to me.

My shameless plug for Dominion Arms is that it's the one of the last stores in America you can smoke in if that's your thing. I'ma non-smoker and the sheer un-PC of it never gets old. Dominion Arms has suplus military rifles/pistols; new, used and antique firearms; andmilitary surplus clothing/gear. Open Tuesday-Saturday and some Sundays.

According to a couple of people at the gun show at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds this past weekend, one just opened up in Harrisonburg.

Some place called Ashby Arms. 870 N. Liberty.

Haven't had a chance to check it out, myself.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but my forum etiquette always says to search first rather than starting a new thread.

Ok, so I just had to search for "Ron Hess" after going to his ****-hole store for the second and last time. I just knew I could not be the only one with a bad experience there, and to my delight and entertainment, reading this thread has confirmed it for me. What a tool. Went in the first time about a year ago looking for an H&K 45. I asked if he had any, and I got: "Nope, over-rated, too expensive." To that I replied "Yea, expensive but I would have to disagree on the 'over-rated part." to which I received a blank stare... What ever happened to the 'customer is always right' ?

The other day, I thought I would give him another chance. Just wanted to check out a couple holsters for OC, and perhaps buy ... it was like I was a nuisance for even being in his store... needless to say I didn't buy. Taking my business back to Bob's.

And I am not sure if it has been posted here, but his store has a sign on the door "No Loaded Firearms Allowed". Sure. Come and buy a firearm from this flea-market gun store, but DO NOT carry a weapon in self-defense inside.

/rant.

Sorry. Had to go off about this tool bag.

Welcome to OCDO.

Join VCDL - www.vcdl.org

Check the forum for meet&eat and other opportunities to get to know the other OCers in your neck of the Commonwealth.

Put Monday, Jan 14, 2013 on your calendar to be in Richmond for Lobby Day.

Keep us up to date on your CHP application. There are a few others who are also going to hold the VB Clerk to the letter of the law. Somewhere here there's probably a thread about doing that.

stay safe.

Thanks for the warm welcome again.

I will try my best to be there in Jan. I will be at the upcoming dinner in VA Beach on the 6th at the Village Inn to meet a few people and get to know everyone.

I have had my CHP for about 2 years now, I CC and OC depending on the situatuion at all times. It's a good practice.

Anyone else have any Ron Hess stories? I love reading about how miserable this guy is.

The 21st is MLK Day.

And according to their Facebook page, Brian & Ed believe Lobby Day 2013 is not the 14th.

Don't want folks applying for vacation time on the wrong day, Skid.

BOB'S get all my money, they are great there the couple times there has been a delay for anything even though not there fault they have told me go up to the ammo dept and pick out what you want and here's 10 trips to the range, sorry for the inconvenience! WOW that's how you get and keep customers:banana: I have no problem handing them my money great guy's!

Also shocking enough if your bored go into ron hess's shop and ask him about cannon's, he's actually friendly and helpful?:shocker: but he will still belittle every customer that comes through the door while he's talking non stop about cannon's charges, ammo type's,etc he really is rather smart too bad he can be a REAL @ss!

and last but not least there's a couple really good guy's at superior on little creek, just not a whole lot to choose from but one of my favorite ranges to shoot at!

Pro's Choice Sporting Goods - Lynchburg is A+++ Excellent prices and very knowledgeable and helpful. They will find the best price for whatever you want.

Lynchburg Arms and Shooting Range - Lynchburg - B- or C High prices, no loaded weapons inside store, gruff, impatient staff. Unfortunately, they are the only public shooting range in 80 miles.

I have driven past that place everyday and sometimes i thought about going in there, however i had heard from several friends that he is not friendly to anyone, so i never have. I have had great experiences at Bobs and superior from their ranges. i have not purchased a gun from either of them. I really enjoyed the range at Camp Allen. dicks sporting goods at independence were somewhat rude when I purchased a shotgun last year. The person behind the counter was giving me an attitude when i was asking questions so I asked him to get a manager so i could complete the paperwork, i have not been there to purchase another gun from them since. My other weapons have been purchased from the SGK gun shows.

Echoes of Glory Classic Guns gets the highest rating I can give them. Just picked up a rifle from them last weekend at the best price out of 4 stores I looked at, backed it up with a warranty, and were some of the friendliest people I've ever met in the business. They are off of Harper's Road near NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, between the two 7 11's in a strip mall. Not sure how often they do auctions but I just walked in there and bought mine outright. They made me feel like family in there and had a HUGE selection of older firearms. Highly recommended if you are seeking an older firearm.

Been there many times, I know them as Tidewater Military Traders. Shop is like a museum where you can buy the exhibits. There are very few times I have walked out of there empty handed.

They are very C&R friendly, so if you have an 03FFL bring a copy with you.

Up here in NoVA, if you are looking for an extremely customer oriented shop, I can't say enough good things about the guys at All Shooters Tactical near the Post office in Dale City.
