I open carryoften and I live in Sioux Falls (a city of about 140,000 people). On Friday 3/30/07 I was open carrying and a lady decided she needed to step on the gas while waiting at a red light when I was in front of her. You guessed it, BAM, right into my bumper.
I called the police to report it and the cop HAD to have noticed the gun on my hip. He noted the positioning of the cars, asked a few questions and had us move them to a nearby parking lot. Then he asked me to come back to his car so I could give him my version of the accident. he didn't ask me to disarm, so I didn't.
During the 5-10 minutes I sat in his car I never got an odd look and he was absolutely polite and professional during the entire time I was there.
And he never mentioned the gun on my hip once.
