Fourth of July Events at Coeur D'Alene

I was looking for things to do this 4th andCoeur D'Alene has a nice day planned (http://www.coeurdalene.org/calendardetail.asp?event_id=2828&date=7/4/2008&view=month).

But according to this coty ordinance apparently still on the books, CC or OC is unlawfully prohibited in violatin of State Preemption. Has anyone addressed this yet or taken on the Coeur D'Alene ordinance onIllegal Posession of Weapons at Parades or Public Assemblies yet?

Notice thatROTC cadets, who have NOT sworn an oath to the Constitution can carry!The way it's worded, they can carry even if they're not participating in the parade!And since I'm a VFW LIfe Member, I guess I can carry IAW 9.52.040 (C)(4)!!

9.52.040: ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS AT PARADES OR PUBLIC ASSEMBLIES:

A.Weapons: It shall be unlawful for any person to have in his possession or to have in any vehicle any weapon while participating in or attending a parade or public assembly.

B.Possession Unlawful: It shall be unlawful for any person to have in his possession or to have in any vehicle at a point within one thousand feet (1,000') of a parade or public assembly, or within one thousand feet (1,000') of the perimeter of a parade or public assembly from the beginning to the end of the route, in the case of a moving parade or public assembly any weapon. This section shall not apply to any person in possession of any weapon in his private dwelling or place of business. Any campers, mobile homes or trailers lawfully parked on private property within one thousand feet (1,000') of the parade or public assembly site shall also be excluded.

C.Exemptions: The following individuals, while acting lawfully and within authority, are exempted from the provisions of this section.

1. Law enforcement officers;

2. Officers and soldiers of the United States armed forces and the Idaho national guard;

3. United States reserve officer training corp cadets; and

4. Members of any United States military veterans' organizations that are national in scope, chartered by the United States congress andhave a tradition of participating in parades and public assemblies. (Ord. 3157 §6, 2003)

Preemption law wins and if you do carry don't expect much if any BS from the CdA PD. I have OC'd there a ton and never been talked to, questioned or approached about it by LEOs. Joe Citizen is a different situation though.

Also, some ROTC cadets have sworn and oath to the Constitution if they are contracted and being paid. They have, for all intents and purposes enlisted into the inactive reserves.

Yep, I love preemption and am not really worried, but good to know theCdA PD are good with OC in general. I would just hope they realize that this "parade and assembly" clause is also in violation. I'll write them and gently remind them that their statute needs to be removed from the books.

I knowsome enlisted go back to school and they're still individually underoath, but ROTC in general isn't. (I'm retired Navy SCPO).

It is part of the contracting process for ROTC types. Does it mean much, not unless you get tossed out and called to AD.

I have found that u can buy digital recorders at radio shack cheap when they have sales. I payed 39.00 for mine and it records 8 hours that can be downloaded.

I always OC and always have my recorder with me. Problem is that the wife and sister-in-law changed our plans so we won't be going to CdA tomorrow. I was looking forward to the parade too, nto just to OC there, but because it's been years wince I've been to a 4th of July parade!

I'll still write the city about their unlawful ordnance.

How'd it go Bob?

I OC'd yesterday in Hayden, and down to the lake for the fireworks on Hayden Lake, even strolled by two sheriff's deputies on the dock and said hello while cruising with my son, no issues. A couple of kids did come by and ask me if I was a cop though. Had a good time altogether.

I have been in downtown CdA dining at the amazing Hudson's Hamburgers and walked out the door and right by 2 CdA PD officers and they didn't even seem to notice. The very nice folks working at Hudson's didnt even care I was OCing. I hae never had any issues OCing in CdA.

Should be a nice weekend for it, make sure you take the time to hit Nosworthy's as well, biggest meal in town. HUGE burgers and schooners of beer. Formerly the Ground Round, by the Fairgrounds on Government Way

Out at the CDA Airport? That's a couple miles from my house. Have fun. If you want a good outdoor shooting spot, as opposed to a pay-for-shoot range, drive around to the backside of Hayden lake and go two miles out the Sportsmens Access road, it's a nice spot to set up targets and have a good time shooting.

Nosworthy's is the place to stuff your gullet, not kidding about that one. Out of towners kind of second take everyone in there on a weekend morning sipping "North Idaho Martinis" (32 oz. red beers) with their four egg monster omlettes. either way, the River City Rod Run is also going on this weekend, in Post Falls, if you like hot rods and motorcycles.
