A couple years ago, I bought my first Mosin. A '42 M38 Izzy with a lammy non M44 (true M38) stock. According to 7.62x54R, it's a 7 on the rarity list. I traded it to a friend for his bass rig to givemy son.

Well, my son has long since traded the bass for a better one, and I'm still out my favorite rifle...until this week. My friend saw my "Telescope-the-size-of-a-TOW-missile" and wants it bad. Well, well, well....even trade for the M38? YES SIR!!!

I hope to take repossession ofthe first bolt action I ever bought this weekend.

I originally bought the old girl at Big 5 for $70. Never been refinished or reworked by me. It does have the refurb stamp but all #'s are matching. I've kicked myself ever since trading it, but it made my son happy to recieve the new bass.

We've only been able to make one trip to the long gun side of the local range, but they're a hoot to shoot. Kabloowie! Kinda tough on the old shoulders though, especially with the steel butt plate.
I'm headed to the range tomorrow with two Nagants and a crap load of ammo, so I broke down a bought a wuss pad. I figure there's no shame in using one when putting that many rounds through guns intended to be shot while wearing two inches of winter coat.

squisher - I have a Mauser re-tread and I don't recognize the crest. I can tell you that it's not a standard marking from any of these: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lithuania, Manchuria, Mexico, Netherlands, Orange Free State, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela, or Yugoslavia... Mine's a Colombian one rebarreled in .30-06 and is one of my favorite rifles. Anyway, good luck with the ID. ;-/ -ljp

It is a Yugoslavian crest.

Yup, somebody helped me with it the other day, specifically it's a Yugo K98.

Thanks again anyway!

Since we're doing the picture thing... here's a quick and dirty pic snapped while rearranging the safe, representing a bit of my "Commie gun" collection.

commieguns.jpg

Top to bottom:
Mosin-Nagant M1891 (dated 1896, NOT a 91/30. These are hard to find these days. and the bayonet cost more than the rifle.)

Mosin-Nagant 91/30

SVT-40. First semi-auto battle rifle issued by a major power.

Yugo M59/66 SKS

Nagant M44

Yugoslavian M72 RPK

Yugoslavian M70AB2

Romanian AK folder

Pistols from top to bottom are a Nagant 1895, Tokarev TT33, and an East German Makarov.

These are all Yugos:
