A good move for Wis.

Hidden handguns could be legally carried without a license in Wisconsin under a far-reaching, Republican-backed proposal unveiled Tuesday. The bill would also allow licensed concealed carry permit holders to bring firearms into places where they are currently barred, including school buildings, unless signs are posted prohibiting them. "We're just removing the barrier of the concealed carry permit to give them their constitutional right," said the bill's co-sponsor, Republican Rep. Mary Felzkowski of Irma. She and Sen. Dave Craig, a Republican from Big Bend, began circulating the measure on Tuesday for co-sponsors

Finally, current law generally prohibits the possession of electric weapons, commonly known as tasers.
No it doesn't. But it does require a CCL for one.

What irritates me is, they should have done this back in 2011 instead of what they did pass then.

But after almost 6 years I suppose the general public has gotten the idea that the whole "wild west days. Blood flowing in the street" cry of the antis is hysterical nonsense. The antis robbed us of our rights via incrementalism, and it appears that incrementalism is how we'll get them back.

Don't miss the comments.
You mean the ones that say "The sky is falling! Oh, God, the sky is falling! Blood flowing in the streets! Wild west shoot outs! Won't anybody think about the children!"

Yet 10 years from now when none of those things happen those same folks will be mum regarding their predictions.

A Republican-backed proposal to allow Wisconsin residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit is drawing opposition from at least one Republican member of the state Senate.

Gun buster sign companies should get a streak of business! I wonder somewhat if a few extra places might also put up a sign now/then?

I've offered repeatedly to provide armed security at my wife's school and would pay up to $1.00 annually for the privilege to do so. That is a 200%? decrease from my previous offer of charging $1.00 a year. Not expecting a contract any time soon. Not sure if she can make that decision, suspect it would be a board issue. Also expect to see signs going up.

It's kind of a pain to haul a firearm around everywhere, I wonder what percentage of people stop after a short period of time. I bet it's pretty high.

QUOTE]

Haven't seen any more signs going up in constitutional then before the number of signs in AZ has been steadily going down and that seems to be the trend in other states as well.

As administrator of the school your wife has the authority to allow people to carry. If she chooses to or not that is her decision.

I just talked to her over lunch today. She's pretty sure her board is gonna be a no go on this. I'm not
sure if this is a decision she makes alone or not, but I think it is probably one you do not want to make, contrary to board wishes anyway.

She was saying (if she had her way) no gun signs were going up at the edge of property, to include the parking lot. But, she just heard about it yesterday. I have not read the law in detail enough to know if it will separate out schools with the ability to ban in parking lots or not. I know other "businesses" can not. My initial reading of allowing parents to drive through (with a CCL) to drop off or pick up kids, would NOT allow schools to ban in the parking lot. Bill has to be passed yet before we can see what's in it.....

The bill as proposed is at my WatchDog.org link above.

I am better acquainted with my School Board than the principal administrator and they are generally mommy-activists.

The past SB Pres. Recommends and I have always voted against the school tax levy increase.
I know the District Administrator better than the board members. While I don't pretend to speak for them, I suspect few will be the schools in Wisconsin that end up WITHOUT the no gun signs on the doors.

While our District Administrator does own guns, shoots about once a month, and occasionally even carries concealed, she does not want any guns in her buildings, other than LE. She has been seen occasionally as well, out and about town eating, biking, or walking with some guy who appears to be open carrying a firearm of some sort. However, rumor has it that she is not thrilled with that, but has given up on trying to change it.

I will be the first to admit I don't understand school finances. I'm told very few actually do, outside of schools in that it is unlike any other business or entity. This school is a rural, low valuation, high poverty district. The money flows into this district, much like Milwaukee. As such, they most likely will rarely need a referendum. Unlike schools with waterfront, high property values, and touristy things, their money flows out and they are as of now, in a cycle of needing (in their opinion) a referendum every 3-5 years to cover operating expenses, or a building project. I know the school portion of the tax levy gets set by the District Administrator, then it goes to the board, then it is voted on at the board meeting, by those in attendance. Which may be no one, other than the board, or it could be one or two people or a full house. I'm not sure if it is a simple majority, or how that works exactly. I missed that meeting this year, they are usually snoozers. I'm pretty sure that is the way the District Administrator likes them.

I just quickly scanned the bill, plus it could change yet,or even not be passed?

After reading that link somewhat closer,
the analysis on page 2/23, it appears that schools will be able to post their buildings as well as their grounds. I'm "assuming" that also means their parking lots.

I don't know how anyone can mumble jumble their way through that gobblygook!

Twenty years I've been personally involved in the RKBA fight in my State. And every year, no matter the bill, if it slightly increases statutory respect for RKBA and/or self-defense rights, the Bradys and Mommies and other gun haters predict blood in the streets. Ok, they rarely use those words, but dire predictions are always presented.

This year, the legislator who introduced permit-free carry in Utah is also a police officer. To his credit, he freely admitted that when we passed permit-free car carry a few years back he was opposed and concerned, but that he has since had to admit that the change in law has had zero practical effect on either officer or public safety. The rarity of such an admission is tragic.

It is those on the left, stereotypically, who demand that laws be based on facts and "science". Turns out that carries about the same weight with them as do their calls for "tolerance". What they really mean is just that any religiously-based morality should be tossed out of laws. But when the facts and data clearly point out that respecting RKBA does not harm public safety, they ignore those facts and data while predicting, for the 20th year now, dire consequences.

And the media plays along.

At what point do these folks lose all credibility in their predictions? They make the boy who cried wolf look down right restrained in comparison.

Best of luck. We did not get permit-free carry passed in Utah this year. We will try again next year.

Incrementalism and persistence are the order of our day to regain our rights, it seems.

So when ?

When is the next move on this? It made a big splash, and then nothing.

Is there anything scheduled for a vote etc?
