Let's understand something: The name of the game is "control and power". You cannot have that "control and power" if the ordinary citizen is armed and has the means to resist any and all criminal activity (including that of elected and appointed officials).
Think about it: If you arm the citizenry, crime rates, as have been documented, drop. When the crime rates drop, you have less need for a huge police force. With the reduction of the police force, you lose the need to impose more taxes and garner more federal government grants. Guess what? You've lost the "control and power"!!
You also have politicians and, unfortunately, some citizens who think that the solution to any problem is to throw more laws at the problem. This is especially true of crime. What these people are too completely stupid to realize is that criminals, by the very definition of the word "criminal", have no respect nor regard for any law.
