one point i am particularly alarmed on; there has been a sudden surge in concealed, with every candidate, who is directly courting our vote, jumping on the band wagon for concealed. i have read of the end result of this in other threads, where an open carrier with a concealed license is subject to police harassment, and risks losing his concealed permit over open carry. i greatly fear this is what we will get even if the 'right' people are put into office by our vote. we MUST remain diligent, and watchful for signs of this coming to pass.

That's a good point.

Saw these videos on youtube a while back. Found them again to post. These two videos are from Michigan. The police try everything to get his ID:
- did you sign your driver's license?
- it's in a holster, it's concealed.
- you have a CCW, so you have to identify yourself (this part starts about 2 minutes into the first video).

The eventually get it from him and in return he gets two citations (Carrying a Pistol and Failure to Disclose a CCW to A Law Enforcement Officer) and they confiscated his handgun. The good news is the charges were dismissed and the judge ordered his handgun and CCW permit returned to him.

Thats the great thing about WCI.

It will be able to easily make the transition after we get concealed carry to a watchdog organization that can mobilize hundreds, if not thousands of members to support other members in a time of need; move to protest infractions and infringements of whatever statutes exist at that time; and put pressure on lawmakers to keep the ball rolling towards the goal of having as few restrictions on our liberty as possible.

thanks for showing the instances don. yeah he won, yeah he got his gun back, and charges dismissed, but he was indeed harassed. is this the game that awaits each of us even after november?!!!!!!

added on edit; if this does come to pass, each of us, and our membership in wisconsincarry will be more crucial than ever, for the organization, and for us as individuals. that new hotline might get quite a workout! Keep the donations going in to wisconsin carry, and if not a member JOIN NOW!

GFSZ near parade route

As I recall, and I may well be wrong, there's only one school zone along the route, right at the starting point of this parade. I believe that a majority (3/4 or more) of it is not in a school zone. I never check GFSZ maps for obvious reasons, but if the LCRP and/or Kapanke groups don't have a problem with it, put it in a soft case or gun sock and holster up when you clear the GFSZ and stuff the case in your pocket. Then Kondracki can.... (self-editted)

If Kapanke invited you to walk in his parade and he supports carry rights, why is he asking you not to carry???

Perhaps the appearance of your support FOR HIM means more to him than HIS support of your rights. Who serves who? Kapanke needs YOUR vote. Kapanke needs the vote of people who believe in the right to carry. (if he didn't think he needed that vote he wouldn't have asked you to walk with him) Explain to Kapanke that if he wants your support he needs to support your rights. GONE are the days of the people seeking the graces of the politician. HERE are the days of politicians serving the people. Kapanke should be seeking YOUR support. The seat in CONGRESS Kapanke is running for belongs to the people of Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District, not to Kapanke. The power of the seat that Kapanke is seeking belongs to the PEOPLE of Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District, not Kapanke. Don't seek to please Kapanke, seek Kapanke to please YOU.

There is more involved here than I am willing to explain on a public forum. If you would like to PM me I will explain it in private. I can tell you that Dan walks the walk, he is with out a doubt a man of his word. I walked a parade in Readstown with him on labor day while oc'ing. After the parade he told us that he was proud to have us with him and then invited us to walk with him in the octoberfest parade. Not once did he or any of his staff ask us to hand out his literature, they were more than happy that we had our own. I support Dan because he has shown by example that he supports us 100%.

This is exactly what is wrong with the gun rights movement in WI. You get invited to participate in a parade. You DIDN'T enter into, and then First you complain, Second you plot. Go ahead, carry in the parade even though the OP made it clear this was empty holster. It WILL hurt your cause.

I have watched so many of you write "we sill support ANY step forward," well it sounds like this will be a step forward.

Thank You.

just a thought. If you can't carry in the parade, it would be a great demonstrator of the legality and practical ability to open-carry if there were OC'ers along the parade route in the crowd that you could walk up to, shake hands with, etc. That way people could see that people really DO OC.
.

We can use every bit of help we can get our hand on. This is a HUGE parade with the potential of doing a lot of good.

So 8:30 at the corner of Clinton and Copeland on Saturday?

The wife and I and a friend will be there. I'll be the one with the lederhosen/holster costume. :)

Well, given the heat in Madison I hope that will inspire more of us to show up at the parade on sat. This might be a great opportunity given the fact that the parade will be on tv, could help keep the conversation going. It would be great if we could make a huge showing. Let the media know that we won't back down.

Well, given the heat in Madison, I will be going to the picnic in Baraboo. After the picnic, I will be going down to Madison to do some shopping and getting something to eat.

Just wondering if anyone has contacted the La Crosse police Chief or anyone on staff by phone? Captain Lawrence is usually the one who gets referred all of the open-carry questions. Are there veterans with rifles marching in the parade?

Being that I am lumped in to "that age" group, I don't know that carrying a loaded firearm through a parade full of drunk idiots is a smart idea in the first place. I have handed out fliers in the parade before and you get harassed enough. Adding a loaded weapon walking down the street in front of a bunch of drunk people is likely to result in someone going for your firearm. Just my .02
