Two of my range buddies have Taurus PT709 Slim pistols which they carry; and they are both very satisfied with their guns.
I have a PT740 Slim, and it has been rock-solid dependable, and it is amazingly accurate at self-defense distances. It is my everyday carry pistol.
As far as the quality of Taurus guns, I've owned 13 different Taurus handguns since 1991, and only two have had mechanical issues. The other eleven handguns have been flawless. The first one that had an issue was a little TCP .380, and the slide began locking back after every shot after I'd had the gun for 16 months. I contacted Taurus, sent the pistol back to them, and they replaced it with a brand new one. Pretty good service, if you ask me.
As for the second Taurus I've had to send back, it was just recently. When firing some new Winchester PDX1 self-defense shot shells through my Ultralight Taurus Judge revolver, a little clip known as the "gas shield" fell out from the upper side of the rear of the barrel when I opened the cylinder to remove the empty shells. I contacted Taurus and the lady had FedEx come by the next day to pick the gun up for overnight shipping to the warranty service center in Miami. Based on my previous experience with their customer service, I feel good about the prospects of getting the gun repaired or replaced (free of charge).
You can't beat a company that will warranty a $400 handgun for the life of the handgun.
Just sayin'...:dude:
