Unfortunately, the laughter is bittersweet in the sense that their mental disconnect from reality signals a deficiency in "common" sense and the collective intellect of the American people.
As an aside, I think the only reason the people interviewed are still alive today is because as a society, we try to protect those who would otherwise benefit mankind by earning a Darwin Award and removing themselves from the gene pool in the interest of increasing cognitive fitness in humanity.

Sort of like herd immunity with vaccines... even the stupid people get some protection from bad outcomes.
But your theory assumes that those protestors "would otherwise benefit mankind".
I don't have any confidence that is true.
Forgive my sentence structure, since my post does seem to give the impression that I find those people to somehow be useful, and not just a group of bitter individuals who make life miserable not just for rational beings, but for the very groups they claim to wish to help.:banghead:
What I meant was that it would benefit humanity if idiots weren't protected from earning a Darwin Award, therefore removing the "idiot genes" from the gene pool.
In this case, the "idiot genes" would be found in the genetic material of the people interviewed.
