Lee Liquid alox is what i use

Have you slugged the bore? Take a piece of pure lead, make a "slug" with the bullet mold. drive the slug through the (clean) bore with a wooden dowel, (nothing metal) starting at the chamber. measure the diameter of the "slug". You will want to get a sizer die that will measure .001 larger than the diameter of that slug.

Once you get that bullet diameter established, load a couple rounds normally, then pull them. You'll want to measure the bullet diameter before you load them, and again after you pull them. they should be the same. Often, the expander dies, that are designed for copper bullets, will not open the brass up far enough, causing the bullets to swage to a different diameter as they are loaded into the case. When this happens,. the bullets become smaller than the required diameter, and leading of the bore is inevitable. If the pulled bullets are too small, you will need to replace the expander within the expander die. There is a guy on www.castboolits.com who will make them for you for around 30$. His name is deltaenterprises. LEE will make the push through bullet sizing dies at your requested diameter for around 30$ as well.

The other die that can cause problems is the factory crimp die. The outer ring will often squeeze the bullets enough that it can change the diameter of a bullet in the case before it ever reaches the taper crimp portion of the die. That ring is pressed into the die very tightly, but it can be driven out with a punch, just be careful not to damage the rest of the die. The carbide ring will usually break as it is driven out, but it generally causes more harm than good.

I had this problem with the .40 as well. Once I got the proper bullet diameter figured out, .401 to .4015, the dies were actually squishing the bullets and changing the diameter. My pulled bullets were measuring .399! A bullet that is too small for the bore will lead every time.

@ Stainless i got a 71 on the asvab.

id like to go to the pit eventually, never been...

I'd like to meet you anyhow. If you plan a day to go ou there, lemme know, I'll try to make it.

@Stainless, ill try and go some time...i really wanna go and ive got a few hundred rounds of steel core 7.62x54R that rose lake doesnt like me shooting.
im supposed to be given a 5 rd. box of dragonsbreath this weekend, if i get it then id have something else to shoot, but only if we have a fire extinguisher or a foot of snow on the ground.

Well you want a GT score of 110 or better to get any job you want, even OCS and MPs

Tomorrow, Nov 5th, is the annual Lapeer Pit Pumpkin Shoot, from 10am to 5pm. Even if you don't shoot, it's always fun to watch all the FA's in action. I wont be able to attend this year but thought some members here would be interested.

The pit is sandy, no need for a fire extinguisher. See the video I just posted, you'll get the idea.
