OC4ME, et al., actually McDonalds has also had to do the very same thing...except it was so the elderly who congregate there in their morning social gathering would leave so they could clean so the lunch crowd can have a place to sit.

unfortunately, it is still the best breakfast value and provides a minimal social outlet for this group of our society which are woefully neglected by our communities.

Just went to the WalMart at I-10 @ DeZavala to get cash out their money center and put cash in my bank (the Woodforest bank inside WalMart). I didn't get asked for ID, no strange looks, no nothing.

Congregating at Micky-Ds is one good way to be neglected by our q-munities. ;)

My Daddy congregated at the local hardware store (not a big-box joint)...many of his seasoned citizen peers were known to socialize in the mornings while the prodigal son(s) got the hardest part of the farming day out of the way. Then his inspections of the properties to be sure #1 son, me, got it done right. Yepper, long arduous day me pappy had...didn't know I had it so easy as a youngster...yepper.

Charlie's Farm and Home, Wentzville is the hardware store to my Daddy's liking.

Finally a beautiful afternoon here in Dallas. Not too cold, not too rainy. Looking forward to wrapping up work here in next hour and finally enjoying 'card-carrying' 2A OC rights here in Dallas - and that is not the West VA town...

Well let us all know how it goes Matt. My sunglasses snapped so I stopped in Academy on 410 @ Vance Jackson for a new pair. Also scoured the aisles for another 1911 mag (their mag and holster shelves were practically bare!) but didn't find one. Again, no reactions or anything--as it should be. :)

Well today reminded me of OC in VA - no one noticed. Black PPQ & DeSantis holster, white Brooks Brothers broadcloth button-down for contrast.
-Went to Post Office - they did have a no gun sign taped right in the middle of the glass door - (5A on what I did there);
-on to Exxon on Maple - pumps closed for measurement;
-up Maple to Arroyo Valero for Texas refined petrol - no one pointed or screamed 'Ay Caramba';
-on back to office - a few folks in elevator - no one noticed.
Nice afternoon.

A Really Positive Experience Last Night!!

Matt, you didn't carry in the post office right??? :eek:

So, while the young one is with us until she goes back to college this weekend, she wants to eat fast food all the time. Normally we don't eat fast food but actually this week I've enjoyed it because it means I can go out OC :lol:

So we decided pizza was on the menu last night and there's this cool little pizza joint here in Bandera that has great food called Cowboy Capital Pizza. It's a small family-run place with three tables inside and a couple big tables outside.

The ladies let me know what they wanted and I headed up there to get an order to-go. It was really good weather yesterday so I put on my 1776 T-shirt making my rig very visible. Anyways, I walk in there and place my order with the owner's daughter and then loitered about waiting. The owner and her husband went to sit outside and I went to put the kid's coke in the truck fearing I'd forget it once the pizza was ready. On my way back in the owner asked me if I'd had any issues with the open carry yet. I told her none whatsoever and then the three of us got into a really good conversation about it. She said that she's wanting to get her license but basically they were VERY pro open carry and appreciated me carrying.

This time, I actually had some of my info trifolds in my pocket so I gave them one. It was a very good experience and their pizza is very good too! So if anyone is in Bandera be sure to check the place out now that you know it's an OC friendly establishment.

On a side note: they have a copy of a men's magazine on the wall from 2002 (I believe) that listed the 50 best places to live in the US and Bandera was #5. I thought that was kinda cool too!

Hadn't noticed anyone here doing OC. I tried in small increments, while filling up the vehicles at SAM's Club, going into a couple of gun shops. So today I took the dog to Academy (the staff there adores him), I wore jeans and a tucked in short sleeve shirt, carried a G-26 in an Aker 3 slot black leather holster with thumb break on an Aker B21 black leather belt with polymer insert.

For the most part almost no one even seemed to notice, one customer after making eye contact suddenly pulled his kid into another aisle. Several sales staff came over to pet the dog like they usually do (he is really calm laid back and they like that about him) but nobody said a word.

This evening I had a little bit of grocery shopping to do so went to Wal-Mart. Greeter was preoccupied with chatting with a guy she must have known and she didn't even see me. About 20 minutes later I pushed my cart past a couple of manager types, they asked if I was finding what I needed, so I asked if they were checking handgun licenses at their store. Eyes widened, and one said, "Yes". So I said "Well, let me show you mine, then".

They both looked at it while I held it, then thanked me and we chatted in a friendly manner. While "visiting" this way a guy stopped by us and said to me he was from Alaska and that he appreciated seeing me carrying in there. After he left the manager types told me they were cool with open carry in the store but a bit wary of being put in the position by corporate of having to stop folks and ask to see their license.

Not a bad day.

Oh, they told me they had seen 4 others open carrying on their shift.

Perhaps because the cost of the ride could be prohibitively expensive - you think?

Are you volunteering to potentially provide a service?
I could be wrong but I don't believe there is any duty to retreat in TX and it has a healthy law regarding defence against threats of death, assault or kidnapping, all of which could be attempted. If I wasnt on the cell i'd quote the statutes but it's past 3AM here so it will have to wait.

Why wouldnt you? Being a public establishment, they don't even have the right to prohibit carry.
Being Federal property, they can and do prohibit carry, at least here in TX. One of the places that they drill into you, to get your papers. Includes courtrooms, polling places while voting is occurring.

The whole "manager checking license because TABC" is BS. They probably think it's a good idea, but there is no way on god's green earth that the legislature intended or will tolerate that. TABC didn't mandate it but some east coast lawyer who does understand freedom made up some crap. (Although, Sam Walton would have used Arkansas' finest lawyers, the current execs probably think NY lawyers are better, but just guessing. )

Bif welcome to the forums and thanks for posting your experiences! If I assume you've not OC'd before in another state, pretty liberating huh?

About the only thing I would've done differently was not to voluntarily offer my LTC to the WalMart manager type folks. Basically, I would just "carry on" :)

And you believe the government when it says something? Shall not be infringed. That's all there is too it. They do prohibit carry because they know we'll accept it. There is NO law that prohibits carry. US Code, State Statute, City code etc is not superior in any way to the Constitution which automatically voids such attempts at control. The law is the Constitution and according to it, anything which contradicts it, cannot even exist

Texas law even has the answer. And that is law as there is nothing in the Constitution to void it.

Sec. 9.31. SELF-DEFENSE. (a) Except as provided in Subsection (b), a person is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect the actor against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful force. The actor's belief that the force was immediately necessary as described by this subsection is presumed to be reasonable if the actor:

(C) was committing or attempting to commit aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery;

Sec. 9.32. DEADLY FORCE IN DEFENSE OF PERSON. (a) A person is justified in using deadly force against another:
(1) if the actor would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.31; and
(2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to protect the actor against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful deadly force; or
(B) to prevent the other's imminent commission of aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery.

Clearly an attempt to prevent a person from carrying would result in many of the above mentioned crimes being committed.

Thankfully no :) Had to get the youngest back to college at Sam Houston State as she totaled her car last week here in Bandera. So I'm going to split this into two experiences: last night at WalMart and then the stuff today. Here goes:

Last Night at WalMart

Had to get a bunch of stuff for the kid for going back to college so we decided to go to the WalMart in Boerne that I've already been to a couple times OC already. So I've come to the conclusion that people are just not paying attention when I wear a nice polo shirt (maybe think I'm some kind of LEO) so I put on a T-shirt again and go trouncing in there very OC visible.
Well, it's a little busier than the last couple of times and we're in there for well over an hour getting this that and the other. At one point I turn around an aisle and there's this old lady coming around the other way with a little kid that I can only assume was her grandson. Anyway, I wasn't paying too much attention to her but I would swear that she gave me this stink eye look and tried to cover the kid's eyes. I didn't think much of it other than if that was what I really saw then she was being pretty ridiculous.
So we finally go to check out (which takes a while) and I'm stood out in front of the check out highly visible to everyone. We finally leave the store (I didn't get asked for my LTC by the way) and head to the Tahoe. There's this young couple (30 somethings) filling their trunk next to us and they were like totally and positively ecstatic that they'd just seen their first OC'er!! I mean to the point where the lady was almost dancing around with excitement. Anyway, they said they used to have their CHL's but they'd let them lapse and wanted to renew them. Really cool experience!
There wasn't much other chance for general chit-chat at the time as we were all leaving. As we were pulling away from the parking space I noticed a Boerne PD squad car pulling up slowly at the front of the store as if they were looking for someone.
There's part of me that feels like either that old lady or someone else may have actually put in a MWAG call. Of course, I did nothing wrong. So far I've seen only one report of a 911 MWAG call in TX since Jan 1st. So, if you hear in the news about a second one in Boerne then it was probably me :lol:

Today

Set off early this morning for Hunstville. Stopped at Buc-ees in Bastrop for gas and to use the bathroom. It was fairly quiet and no issues or funny looks whatsoever. If anybody is wondering what Buc-ees is, it's like the mother-of-all-gas-stations: huge, full of cool stuff, food and souvenirs, cheap gas ($1.49/gal today) and has become an all round TX icon. Many people sport Buc-ees T-shirts and bumper stickers around here!
Well, we then stopped at Bluebaker in College Station for breakfast. Again, no issues, funny looks or anything. Very positive experience!
Had to disarm at Sam Houston S.U. obviously plus the weather wasn't cooperating.
OTW home, stopped at the same Buc-ees in Bastrop for lunch, bathroom, gas etc. Very busy this time. Got some double-takes from patrons and a friendly nod from their armed security guard. Pretty cool.
