Thankfully no
Had to get the youngest back to college at Sam Houston State as she totaled her car last week here in Bandera. So I'm going to split this into two experiences: last night at WalMart and then the stuff today. Here goes:
Last Night at WalMart
Had to get a bunch of stuff for the kid for going back to college so we decided to go to the WalMart in Boerne that I've already been to a couple times OC already. So I've come to the conclusion that people are just not paying attention when I wear a nice polo shirt (maybe think I'm some kind of LEO) so I put on a T-shirt again and go trouncing in there very OC visible.
Well, it's a little busier than the last couple of times and we're in there for well over an hour getting this that and the other. At one point I turn around an aisle and there's this old lady coming around the other way with a little kid that I can only assume was her grandson. Anyway, I wasn't paying too much attention to her but I would swear that she gave me this stink eye look and tried to cover the kid's eyes. I didn't think much of it other than if that was what I really saw then she was being pretty ridiculous.
So we finally go to check out (which takes a while) and I'm stood out in front of the check out highly visible to everyone. We finally leave the store (I didn't get asked for my LTC by the way) and head to the Tahoe. There's this young couple (30 somethings) filling their trunk next to us and they were like totally and positively ecstatic that they'd just seen their first OC'er!! I mean to the point where the lady was almost dancing around with excitement. Anyway, they said they used to have their CHL's but they'd let them lapse and wanted to renew them. Really cool experience!
There wasn't much other chance for general chit-chat at the time as we were all leaving. As we were pulling away from the parking space I noticed a Boerne PD squad car pulling up slowly at the front of the store as if they were looking for someone.
There's part of me that feels like either that old lady or someone else may have actually put in a MWAG call. Of course, I did nothing wrong. So far I've seen only one report of a 911 MWAG call in TX since Jan 1st. So, if you hear in the news about a second one in Boerne then it was probably me
Today
Set off early this morning for Hunstville. Stopped at Buc-ees in Bastrop for gas and to use the bathroom. It was fairly quiet and no issues or funny looks whatsoever. If anybody is wondering what Buc-ees is, it's like the mother-of-all-gas-stations: huge, full of cool stuff, food and souvenirs, cheap gas ($1.49/gal today) and has become an all round TX icon. Many people sport Buc-ees T-shirts and bumper stickers around here!
Well, we then stopped at Bluebaker in College Station for breakfast. Again, no issues, funny looks or anything. Very positive experience!
Had to disarm at Sam Houston S.U. obviously plus the weather wasn't cooperating.
OTW home, stopped at the same Buc-ees in Bastrop for lunch, bathroom, gas etc. Very busy this time. Got some double-takes from patrons and a friendly nod from their armed security guard. Pretty cool.
