I was away for a while, and am now back to my usual being completely overwhelmed. I might be scarce, but had to share one of my recent encounters. Rest assured, my daily experiences are all positive and numerous, but this is the one worth mentioning. One of my clients is a very wealthy local figure. Aside from many things I do for his estate, I am at his personal house frequently. So yesterday, I walk in and pass through the dining room on my way to get some things repaired in the bar. The estate manager, a friend, is having some sort of very official meeting with some sort of VIP. All of sudden, the new guy's eyes get wide as I walk through the room.
He stops mid sentence to address me: "Excuse me, is that a gun?"
"Yes, sir," I reply very respectfully but with just a hint of 'of course' in my voice.
"Why are we carrying a gun?"
"Why aren't we?"
At this point the estate manager flashes open his vest to reveal a large .45 as well: "We all carry guns. Why aren't you?" The man's face showed the shock he felt realizing he'd been having a professional conversation with an armed man.
Since carrying a gun is perfectly normal, I continue on about my business, as if all we'd shared were mere pleasantries. I could hear that their conversation was about guns, permits, open carry, and California for several minutes before my friend had to get the guy's attention back on the Rolls Royce collection.
I realize it's not as cool as a story involving running in heels, but I certainly feel another dent was made.
