Were you OC-ing the AR15 pistol on the motorcycle or was the motorcycle on a trailer? :) I am always a bit hesitant to OC in NC because of the lack of preemption.

(what does not making my mains mean?)

How odd that the library would do something like this. I don't recall the details, but when pre-emption first went through about 2 years ago, I was using the library fairly regularly, and said to the head librarian that the policy had to change. I'm quite certain the policy did subsequently change. Perhaps this is the result of a new guy who doesn't remember the legal reality.

I cc'd my e-mail to the Library Director to Sheriff Diggs (and to PVC). Sheriff Diggs' response follows.
I have forwarded your discovery of the problem with the library's conduct code to the county attorney. I assume that he will advise the library of this problem and ask them to correct it. Please note that this policy was implemented in 2003 and I do not know if the state law had been passed at that time. I would also assume that this is an oversight on their part. Until the policy is corrected, please be assured that no action will be taken by deputies as we realize that state law supersedes library policy.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Problem solved.:D

Danny Diggs for Governor of the Great State of Virginia!

Only if he gets to handpick the next sheriff of York County! The gain of all VA would be the loss of York County. :)

I asked him once if he was ever interested in running for other offices and he said not at the moment so he may be interested at some point. :)

Wonder if one can hold two offices in Virginia at the same time = Governor, Sheriff Danny Diggs!!

As a followup, here's the Library Director's response. Note that he responded to the Sheriff & the County Attorney.
:D
Mr. Barnett & Sheriff Diggs,
I am aware of the State law and have informed the staff that citizens to do have a right to carry "arms" into the library whenever they occasionally do so. This is an apparent oversight in updating the Rules and Regulations of Conduct section of the Library Policies. I will have the Library Board revise the policy at their August meeting.

OC-ed to Justice, Chili's, Walmart and Anchor Pool. No issues.

I am hoping to learn my daughters cheer scheduleS for August soon so I can schedule an OC dinner that I can actually attend. :) Stay tuned.

I had my XDm40 on my hip...quite a few googly eyes once i passed the border. I didnt want to bring the AR pistol down, as i do not know the laws down there when it comes to a piece like that.

I was a little nervous OCing down there, but i read through a majority of the laws before going.

OC'ed to my bank yesterday to put my check in. Walked into the store while holding the door open for a very sketchy figure.

I walk in and he asks: "That a 9?"
*groan* "No, it is a .40 cal"., i said. (i dont like "slang talk")
"Oh sweet. I had an AK47. I am from new york. I didnt know you couldnt have banana clips there. They took my gun away"
"Oh, that stinks. You have to know the rules! Even the small technicalities."

At that time, a friendly teller waived me up (thankfully!).
I get up to the desk and she takes my check, deposits it, etc.
She then looks over at the very sketchy guy and looks back at me and says "Do you mind standing here for just a second?"
I smirk and say "haha, not a problem...i understand"

At this time, she comments "Oh, you are the bike shop guy! Yeah, i heard about how you carry your gun with you everywhere, haha. The first time you came in we were like "Oh my gosh, he has a gun!", but now i am happy you have it with you.

I respond: Yeah, i carry it everywhere, sometimes concealed, because you just never know, etc etc etc <you know the drill here>. Its not the ones you see that you have to worry about, its the ones you cant see.

The sketchy guy was now at a teller booth and she said that she was getting a look from her manager for slowing up the line.

I told her thank you and that i will be right outside until sketchy guy left.

She thanked me with a smile and i went on my way.

<snip> Walked into the store while holding the door open for a very sketchy figure. <snip>

Great encounter demonstrating the valid reason why to carry.

Worst case you educated a few people, best case you prevented anything bad happening.

My spidey senses have gone off a few times since OC-ing luckily nothing ever happened. As I always say the more good people carrying the less bad people can do (or get away with).

In defense of the sketchy figure, they deserve to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones too. I met some nice sketchy looking people, some were ex-felons that can not legally own a gun. I feel for them especially if they have to live or interact with other sketchy people. Sometimes you can't tell the book from the cover, other times with spidey senses it is best to keep that book at arms length. (semiauto needs to be in battery to fire. :)

The "Bike Shop Guy"? Not as colorful a handle as say, Paladin, but it does seem that your reputation is spreading. Does your G/F know about this interaction with the "friendly teller"? And to think you could have used the drive up.

Keep up the good work:banana:

Yeah :-| in this state its a felon if you steal more than $5, learned it last week in class. I think that is insane. It's not violent... So if someone stole someones fancy pin($10 pin or something) you are a felon and can't own a gun. :banghead: Stupid laws.

Holy cow... he's right, sort of. What a stupid law.
Taking something valued at $5 or more off a person could net a 20-year sentence.
Otherwise, it has to be $200 or more, or a firearm.
I think this is one of those laws that hasn't been updated since 17-something, since the amounts are way out of whack with the seriousness of the sentence.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-103
18.2-103. Concealing or taking possession of merchandise...
Whoever, without authority, with the intention of converting goods or merchandise to his own or another's use without having paid the full purchase price thereof, or of defrauding the owner of the value of the goods or merchandise, (i) willfully conceals or takes possession of the goods or merchandise of any store or other mercantile establishment... when the value of the goods or merchandise involved in the offense is less than $200, shall be guilty of petit larceny and, when the value of the goods or merchandise involved in the offense is $200 or more, shall be guilty of grand larceny.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-95
18.2-95. Grand larceny defined; how punished
Any person who (i) commits larceny from the person of another of money or other thing of value of $5 or more,
(ii) commits simple larceny not from the person of another of goods and chattels of the value of $200 or more, or
(iii) commits simple larceny not from the person of another of any firearm, regardless of the firearm's value,
shall be guilty of grand larceny, punishable by imprisonment in a state correctional facility for not less than one nor more than twenty years or, in the discretion of the jury or court trying the case without a jury, be confined in jail for a period not exceeding twelve months or fined not more than $2,500, either or both.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-96
18.2-96. Petit larceny defined; how punished.
Any person who:
1. Commits larceny from the person of another of money or other thing of value of less than $5,
or
2. Commits simple larceny not from the person of another of goods and chattels of the value of less than $200... shall be deemed guilty of petit larceny, which shall be punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor.

So technically, yes, a thug stealing the purse off some woman's shoulder could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Betcha it doesn't happen often.
More likely the reduced sentence or fine is handed out.
