When I was a teenager I used to go plinking mostly with 22 rifles but also some with a 9mm pistol my dad had. When I turned 18 I bought a Mosin Nagant at a pawn shop for $50, cleaned it up, and had a pretty good time shooting it until I went to college but I shot it less and less as time went on.

By the time I turned 21 I rarely shot it anymore so I took it to a gun shop where they traded it even for a Hi-Point .40 pistol which I intended to keep next to my bed for protection which is pretty much all I did with it. I bought a box of 50 rounds at the time I got it and I still had 20 rounds left when I traded it in 2014.

Early-mid 2014 I got an administrative position with the Kentucky Department of Corrections and began making friends who were really into guns. They advised me that if I was just going to have a single gun for home protection the best thing was a 12 gauge shotgun. So I traded the Hi-Point for a 12 gauge Maverick 88.

I started going shooting for fun with friends from work and really liked it, so I bought a Ruger P89 9mm pistol from a friend for a good deal and have been working on training with that and have occasionally open carried it. I also just got a Ruger 10/22 and a Savage Mark I .22 rifle that were my grandpa's before he died and have been sitting in a storage unit for the 10 or so years since then. They have some surface rust but the important parts seem to be OK to still use. I am slowly working on trying to "fix them up."

At the time of writing this (3-27-2015) I am going next week to complete the Department of Corrections firearm training, which is now an acceptable alternative to taking the CCDW class so I plan to get my concealed carry license soon.
