Youth shot in leg; police get suspect

JONESBORO — A juvenile was in police custody Wednesday night after he allegedly shot another juvenile in the leg, Jonesboro police said.

Police responded at 8:26 p.m. to 300 Garden Manor Drive in response to a shooting, a police dispatcher said.

Lt. Mark Mosier of the Jonesboro Police Department said authorities arrived at the Garden Manor apartment complex after reports on the incident.

“We found a juvenile male shot in the leg,” Mosier said.

Mosier said the victim was at the gate of the apartment complex, and the shooter was at a nearby tree line when he fired at the victim.

At least a dozen officers, along with search dogs, looked for the suspect and weapon at the apartment complex, a line of trees and in the vicinity of Parker Park Community Center.

Mosier said authorities did not know what kind of weapon was used in the shooting.

After the victim was shot, the suspect fled west several blocks. The suspect was later taken into custody, police said.

Mosier declined to name the suspect and victim because of their ages.

Mosier said the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim’s condition was unknown.

Detective Lyle Waterworth is in charge of the investigation.

Authorities do not have a motive in theshooting and are investigating.

Anyone with information on theshooting can contact the Jonesboro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (870) 935-6649.
