Hi there, I am new to the forum and was hoping for some insight on the OCer/LEO dynamic in the areas of Bozeman and Gardiner MT as well as in YNP I live and work in Yellowstone and I OC everyday no matter what both in the park and out and about in town. I have yet to have a law enforcement encounter but am slightly concerned/nervous that it could go either way. Assuming that I do my part to handle the situation properly, does anyone have any insight on how the local LEOS are with regards to OC? Ive spoken to a couple of rangers here in the park while at work that seemed fully supportive and informed...but I have heard some horror stories as well. Any info would be very much appreciated and Im glad to be a part of such a positive forum community!
Thanks

Well....thanks for the help people....I had to find out for myself. In case anyone is wondering I have been ocing everyday in Gardiner, Bozeman, cody and YNP without one single negative incident. I have had multiple encounters with law enforcement and ALL have been incredibly positive! I get positive comments almost daily from park rangers in the Mammoth Hot Springs area where I work. I am happy to see that things are much more accepting here than I was first led to believe. Loving every minute of it and enjoying the Constitutional liberties we are allowed here in Wyoming!

Thank you for being the first one here with the experience to answer your question! Please stick around so you can help the next one that has questions for that area!

I have family from Cody, and now near Helena, so I have trips planned through there as well. Thank you for the information.

Sorry I did not reply to your original request. However, I don't have any experience in the areas you were inquiring about. I could tell you that I have had zero issues in Missoula -> Kalispell areas but I am not sure that would help you much.

I am glad you have not had any issues, I wouldn't have expected any. Watch out for Butte though.

A couple of years ago, the state of Montana passed legislation affirming the right of the people to OC. There were a couple of places, such as Billings and Bozeman, that were bothering Open Carriers. So, you should have no problem from the LEO side. If you do, make sure that you also contact the MTSSA with the information as I am sure that Gary would like to know.
