OP's question was pretty straight forward and should've merited a pretty straight forward answer without him having to provide chapter and verse if he didn't feel the need at this moment. Yet, I have to agree with logunowner 1000%. What's the point in having a forum where we're supposed to help each other promote the idea of open carry when the same handful of people have nothing better to do than split hairs with people's posts...which discourages others from posting and/or possibly makes people leave never to come back?

quote: stl: Thanks for your opinion. I'm trying, in part, to roll back legislation, but your off topic judgement is noted. unquote

quote: mcbeth:
I did not provide an opinion .. just facts :dude:. What is the primary law or top one that you are trying to roll back or get repealed? unquote

do not shoot those who cynically ask a question(s) to provide the proper response to an ambiguously posted query...

sorry, we are aware there are legislative members (pick a state, any state or nationally) who have pet projects and w/o the foggiest idea what the OP's subject matter is, it is difficult to provide guidance/opinions/approaches as each would be tailored specifically to individual or like minded legislators. (which McBeth pointed out a viable methodology to accomplish)

further, unless you have sucked up to, thru ,and have built credibility through the legislator's senior staff, you won't get get anything in front of the legislator...

now if the OP is taking the lead and attempting to institute a MO grassroots organization w/themselves as leader that is a viable exercise also.

OP's question would only have been "ambiguous" if we didn't know which state legislature he was talking about. Since this is the Missouri forum, I'd say his question was simple and straight forward without the need to question his reasoning--which, at this point, he may have good reason to not make public. If someone here mentioned they'd OC'd in their local WalMart, would we need to know what they were shopping for?

I do believe your intentions are good solus but sometimes your responses to member's posts can appear to come across as somewhat demeaning and pompous--which can cause friction and has the potential to drive away visitors to this forum--which will only hurt the open carry cause.

you have summarily dismissed comments with 'oh thanks for the suggestions'

I apologize to anyone who felt dismissed. This was rather a heartfelt gratitude expressed towards those who choose to provide help regardless of their opinion of the nature of my post. Several responses here, and several that came via PM in response to this thread have been very valuable. They were not dismissed by expressing my gratitude. Infact they have helped me form a plan of action.

Despite objections to the contrary this thread has been successful towards eliciting the information I needed. Now that I've formed my initial plan with this help, the thread no longer needs to continue. Moderators feel free to lock it, or otherwise everyone should now feel free to debate the purpose and tactics of this thread in general.

Some posters on this site can become so annoying that for me they warrant the use of the "ignore" button. STLDaniel asked a question that I thought was clear and easy enough to answer or not. I decided to take 45 seconds to respond with a reply I thought might be helpful, it was up to STLDaniel to use or not and it was up to him to thank me or not.

Just my 2 cents even though I could not see all the posts.

Did your letter start with:

Dear Rep. XXX,

I was just cleaning my AR15 when this thought came to mind....

I'm fairly certain a different government entity would have gotten in touch with me.

this forum in it entirety provides enough friction between it's members to wonder if it's a Ron Jeremy film. ( ba-dum bum)

on a serious note, I think the assistance was provided further insight is probably not required, and personal opinion is just that.. personal opinion, the fact it is generally side by side with insight and fact just gives people the requirement to be able to sift through B.S. to find the info they need.

kind of like sifting through an actual government branch to get information..
