Why do you need "Flash" ad's on the Forum?

Ad's like the annoying "3 Speed Holster" eat up to much bandwith and take to long to load for thouse plagued by a slow internet connection. Why not just put up a plain HTML ad? Cutsie mvoing banners are not going to make someone buy a product especially if they irritate PPL! Has this gone from an interesting forum to a commercial venture where all you care about is trying to sell someone something?

I doubt it.

Lets not forget that John probably has law school loans and so forth that he has to repay now that he's graduated.

Even if he is turning a little profit, what the heck. Its not going to be much.

For the longest time, there were no ads. Except for those of us who send a bit of cash to John periodically, users get the forum for free.

I find the ads annoying, but since I haven't chipped in cash for a long while, I can't personally complain.

Maybe John can do a little quarterly fundraiser, and if successful, drop the ads. Or maybe make them just unlive .pdfs.

Not really our responsibility, is it? I have no problem with a few ads that'll pay for the forum expenses. But loading it up to pay for law school, well... It's his forum, so he can do whatever he wants to. Forums with too many adds, however, tend to drive most people away.

I gave him a buck or two. Or maybe I bought a 2A coin or two...

Once the forum's expenses are covered, it'd be nice if he could limit them to two per page, instead of six or more.

I'm sorry. I guess I shoulda been more specific to ensure the hyper-critical couldn't take it the wrong way.

I shoulda said, "With law school loans to pay off, I wouldn't be surprised if his cash flow didn't allow him to personally finance a 2A playground for the rest of us."

Yeah! Lets just throw John and Mike under the bus, and forget all they've done for 2A by hosting this forum for seven years for some 20K members nationwide to learn and exchange ideas. What a bunch selfish ***holes they are! /sarcasm

User/membership is almost at 39K now and nobody has ever been charged the first red cent for the operation, servers, security, etc. - nada, zip. I doubt that the intent was to set up a non-profit operation, but think at best John and Mike have a very low return on investment.

The partners actually doubled my annual salary last year, gave me a card permitting free water at participating restaurants, and moved my office indoors - now I have a place to sleep.

Seriously, it is a privilege to work with them.
