12 days until Virginia elections and VCDL PAC has still not endorsed statewide candidates.

Why is it taking so long for VCDL PAC to announce endorsements? It is a pity that endorsements come so late. Many, including those serving overseas in the military must vote absentee and the endorsements come after most absentee voters have already voted.

I have received numerous emails and links to various news and political websites discussing a endorsements on the candidates by VCDL.

Basically its Gillespie, Vogel and John Adams as their very strongly recommended candidates.

VCDL PAC has not made any statewide endorsements. They post their endorsements on their facebook page. So far their only endorsements for this election are for the House of delegates and some local races.

I wonder what Ed said in his candidate survey.

Are you a VCDL member, and do you genuinely think your vote will be influenced by their endorsements? Or are you just looking for one more thing to complain/criticize them for?

it is possible

That none of the statewide candidates have submitted a survey despite good records and stances. No survey, no endorsement. All part of the game. No gun owner can reasonably vote Democratic. They have thoroughly embraced gun control. Be sure to vote against this.

Yes I am a member. I also donate to VCDL PAC. Two years ago I praised VCDL PAC for their endorsements. Those endorsements were well reasoned and based upon candidates positions on gun rights. I definitely used the VCDL PAC endorsements two years ago. I also used the VCDL PAC endorsements for this year’s primaries. I am a Libertarian, but voted in the Republican primary for Corey Stewart and Jill Vogel because I could and I liked their pro gun positions. I knew what their positions were because of the efforts of VCDL PAC. I had to vote absentee this year, so I wanted to see the VCDL endorsements before I voted. Unfortunately I cannot wait and had to vote without seeing the answers of the candidates to the VCDL questionnaires.

To be clear, I am not anti VCDL or VCDL PAC. They do a lot of great work. My criticism of VCDL has often been their P4P efforts, which I am fundamentally opposed to, and this is very relevant and appropriate on an open carry site.

I started this thread because I pay dues and make donations and would like to know what the candidates positions are. Understand that For me Ed and Ralphie the gun grabber do not deserve my vote. I wanted to see the answers of the Libertarian, Cliff Hyra before I decided whether he has earned my vote.

For those from outside of Virginia, voter registration in Virginia does not include party affiliation, therefore voters choose the primary ballot (limited to Democrats and Republicans) on Election Day.

Thanks for the well written response. The perception that you give off, based on many of your posts, is that you very much have some sort of a bone to pick with VCDL. I don't know if thats what you intend for people to perceive... or perhaps it just comes across that way (at least to me). Maybe you just weren't aware how its viewed?

Regarding the endorsements... have you tried to email Robert Sadtler (VCDL PAC Chairman chairman.vcdlpac@vcdl.org ) and ask him directly? While I have not communicated directly with him.. every time that I have reached out to others in the 'higher ups' of VCDL, they have been very responsive.

To an extent, I don't disagree with you regarding Ed... I'm not an overly huge fan of him, and considered not voting at all this go around. Honestly I'm pretty bitter that he jumped on the 'lets ban bump stocks' bandwagon so quickly after Vegas, before the facts of the incident were even fully known. (I don't own a bump stock btw) I'm also not a fan of a couple other positions of his. All that said... Ed isn't Northam... and as a law abiding gun owner, I believe that I will be in MUCH worse shape if Northam wins. So.. to me, as the person with the only real chance of beating Northam, Ed will ultimately get my vote. Frankly, when it comes down to it... I don't understand how anyone who claims to be for gun rights could vote otherwise....knowing that a vote for anyone other than Ed may ultimately help the anti-gunner get in office. But that horse has been beaten to death here by many others previously, so there's really no need to beat it further. :uhoh: (Thats not meant to be a slight, or comment on you specifically... just my general viewpoint).

I suspect that you have probably seen this in the VCDL Email Alert.. but here are the endorsements. No real surprises.

--------------------------------------------------
In 3 days, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, there will be a General
Election to elect the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, all the
members of the House of Delegates, and many local offices.

This message addresses VCDL-PAC's endorsements for the three statewide
offices only -- Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General.

A candidate must complete the VCDL Candidate Survey in order to be
considered for endorsement. In addition to their Survey response,
VCDL-PAC factors in voting record (if any) and public statements (if
any) the candidates make on this issue before issuing an endorsement.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

GOVERNOR

VCDL-PAC endorses ED GILLESPIE for Governor!

ED GILLESPIE turned in a PRO-GUN survey and has pledged to overturn
Executive Order 50 (Governor McAuliffe's emergency executive order
banning guns in state-agency buildings).

ED GILLESPIE's Democrat opponent means four more years of McAuliffe's
anti-gun, anti-self-defense doctrine. Four more years of the status quo
simply cannot be tolerated. On top of that, as Lt. Governor, Ralph
Northam single-handedly killed Constitutional Carry in 2016! And he has
stated publicly that he was proud to have a failing grade on gun rights.
Since he's proud of failing, let's make sure he fails at the polls on
Tuesday, November 7.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

VCDL-PAC endorses JILL VOGEL for Lieutenant Governor!

JILL VOGEL has been a friend to gun owners for ten years, got us
Glovebox Carry, co-patroned Universal Recognition, and carried THREE gun
bills this year alone, fighting for all three, right down to veto day!
If you missed the second debate on 10/5/17, she ignored the noise about
"bump stocks," and stood firm that she was "not running to infringe on
ANY Constitutional rights!"

Unbelievably, her opponent favors mandatory gun insurance, universal
background checks, and he even called for CONFISCATION of certain
classes of guns! VCDL-PAC takes any threats of gun confiscation
extremely seriously.

ATTORNEY GENERAL

Since neither candidate answered the VCDL Candidate survey, VCDL-PAC can
take no position on the Attorney General race. It is worth noting that
as Attorney General, Mark Herring tried to BLOCK CHP reciprocity with 25
states and has recently signed on OPPOSING National CHP Reciprocity!
