I started open carrying in California once I became a licensed private investigator. I do not carry in businesses or banks but when I am out in the field I carry most of the time. I do have to be aware I am not within a 1000 feet of a school so I won't violate CA penal code code 626.9 and get arrested but other than that I have no problems with anyone especially law enforcement.

For me, it was May 12th, 2015. After an emergency relocation to NC and of course, after I researched the carry laws well in advance. I started open carrying by my own choice and because it is not only free but also comfortable.

Oh, probably about 1959 in rural Kansas. We used to walk to town (3 miles one way) with our .22 bolt action single shot rifles, looking for pop bottles along the way to fund our shooting. I remember one time, at the pool hall, an older teen was sitting on the wall benches waiting for a table to open, showing a revolver he had recently acquired. While guns and shooting were a part of our lives and we enjoyed it, there was a time when pinball machines got a good deal of our attention too. Oh how times have changed.

reason you don't have a problem with anyone; center around you being a card carrying member of the elite...

JQPublic Californians do not have that opportunity to OC in the state...

Awesome thread

I actually found out about open carry while at my concealed carry class. A number of the Soldiers I work with and I had talked about how it was getting increasingly unsafe to be a Soldier and especially travel to and from home while in a uniform. I took the first step and began to travel to and from work in civilian cloths. Then took a concealed weapons class.

Still waiting on the appointment to get my fingerprints and complete the process. However I have become a avid OC believer.

Thanks to all that post on this site. Thank you to the NC residents who have passed on much needed knowledge.

I had been concealed carrying my Ruger P89 for a few months when I got sick of it being so damned uncomfortable. I knew that open carry was not illegal and I figured, what the hell, why not?
