Well, we have roughly 10 interested in Kalamazoo. I'm going to take a bit of initiative and try to schedule something.

I'm a bit new to organizing OC events, so I could use some help.

If anyone has ideas for locations, I was thinking of doing an event Saturday, February 7th. I feel this gives people enough time to request time off (if needed), and to arrange for the details.

What we now need: miopencarry paraphernalia, location, and a good speaker :p

If we choose not to make this an educational event, and just a get-together, that's fine too.

I'm going to call Theo & Stacy's and see if we can't get together there. (I'd rather have explicit permission than be kicked out...yes?)

ETA: I've drafted a brief letter. Will PM to those interested to proof.
Depending on the day I might go. You can PM me the letter if you want.

It's becoming more difficult for me to plan a meetup. If anyone would like to help, I'm in for it. as of Yesterday, I sent that letter out to one place (Theo & Stacy's), of course, worst case scenario we just go somewhere, and if they ask us to disarm or leave, then, we leave.

ETA: What do you guys think about Jan 24 as a possible date?

I'll be creating a thread about this soon.

It doesn't have to be a major event that requires lots of planning. Look at what we did this past Monday.

http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum30/20144.html

All we did was ask if anyone wanted to meet for lunch, and determined a time and place. Seems to me that you've already done that.

I didn't call/write Arnie's before the meet to ask permission, since all we were doing was meeting for lunch. I did drive by to look for any posted signs and there were none.

You've already (tentatively) picked a date and place. Finalize that date, then set up a time and send the info to SpringerXDacp so he can post it, and people can plan.

I might be able to also make the 24th.

I'll put us both down for tentative.

If you want I would be up for a car pool,if your from the GR area I can fit 5 in my Pontiac GP
Problem with that is, if I get called to work, then I have to leave.

Thanks for the offer though, and there may be others in the area looking to carpool.

BTT.

Don't know if anyone from West Michigan has give this much thought yet, but thought I'd bring it back up since it's been a while.

Another thing to think of is that members from other areas of the state are becoming much more active. As a result it is quite possible that any events planned for our area are going to be quite small. I'm hoping that people will keep the Coast Guard Festival in mind when making plans for this summer. That would be on August 1.

Well I enjoyed time spent at the picnic last Summer that was held in Grand Rapids at the John Ball Park Zoo. It was my first chance to put some faces to the names of those who's post I follow. And, I still have some venison steaks for the grill if we are going to get together. Lately I have been perfecting my recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookie bars if your sweet tooth needs to be challenged.

Maybe we could mention a M&G in the MGO Forum. I think that there are a number of like minded folks in that group as well.

That's all well and good, but somebody still has to step up and do it.

There are many events planned by others this year, so getting a turnout for the events I suggested are probably going to be difficult, especially if no one takes the initiative.

While it would be nice to have an annual July picnic in Grand Rapids, it appears that there are other things being planned already that month, so attendance may lack. Also, I would think that a M&G at the Coast Guard Festival would be more desirable for the group as a whole since that is where a member was arrested last year, and it would be great exposure.

Then again, this is a grass roots movement, and if no one wants to step up and do the necessary work, then it won't get done, and we'll just have to settle for M&G's in other areas.

The reason I started this thread was because people were expressing interest in a West Michigan event. I am not in a position to do this. As it is, it's hard enough for me to break away to attend, and even then it's only tentative. Maybe that is the reason others have not moved on this. Maybe it just isn't time for West Michigan.

I'm down for both GR and BC since I "live" within 25-30 miles of both places respectively. I'll ask the "war department" if she'd like to come along as well.
