Why not? It works against redheads, or witches, or left-handed folks.

Oh, wait! You can actually figure out if someone is one of those (presuming witches carry their brooms with them at all times). Do they propose hanging signs around folks' necks?

But I guess it really does not matter because it's just another small step towards finding that "perfect" law that will stop folks from breaking the law. :banghead:

stay safe.

Faulty premise. Faulty conclusion.

Another feel good law, this one more meaningless than most.

+1 They say "weapons arrest" .... I guess the business group of Madison don't like our jurisprudence system ... innocent until proven guilty.

And even if not guilty is the outcome, they'll still file trespass charges? Guess those businesses don't want to be in business very long...

And people who "paid their debt" (and 50% of felonies today are on the war on drugs, which is more of an actual war than a cliche) cannot enter? I don't see this flying either...the war on drugs is a goofy one

Where's the "facepalm" smiley? :banghead:
proposing a ban on the patronage of recent, weapons offenders at participating businesses.
President Sachi Komai of the Greater State Street Business Association says the ban would involve people who have had a weapons arrest within the past year...
Executive Director Mary Carbine of Madison's Business Improvement District says the ban would also apply to repeat, retail theft offenders...
signs prohibiting patronage by offenders covered under the ban may begin appearing next month.

Perhaps if we painted a scarlet "O" on the foreheads of offenders...
For someone who's only been arrested, use dye like the mideast countries use for fingers on voting day.
For a conviction, a tattoo.
:banghead:
(But I think it should be a W for 'weapons'.)

No, it has to be permanent - the law is targeting those who have been arrested, whether or not they were convicted.

Of course, the distinction may be merely due to some reportologist not knowing that there is a difference. I doubt it, but am willing to entertain the possibility (just for giggles).

stay safe.

PS - Are felons a "protected class" in WI? As in you can't discriminate against them (except in some cases covered by specific legislation) just because they are felons? If so, there is a part of me that would lurv to watch as some felon sued them for rights violations and walked away with a few hundred bucks.

When they say weapons ban they must automatically mean guns. Weapons are defined more than guns. How about those arrested for using kitchen knives, axes scissors etc... for domestic violence, DWI arrests due to fatalities etc... Then how would you profile an out of state visitor who was arrested in his state etc... I say this is discrimination. Where is the equal protection clause when we need it. They'll loose business.

"The great object is that every man be arrested and no one who is able may have a gun" - Said Patrick Henry never.
Law enforcement doesn't care if people are convicted, so long as an arrest is made; the mindset is that with enough arrests you will produce a law-abiding populace.

In hiring & firing, yes.
I don't know about housing, places of public accomodation, etc.
