Less valuable than it once was

Much as I dislike the idea/need of even getting a permission slip from gov't, I got my Utah non-res permit a couple of years ago with the idea of being able to unquestionably carry in Utah and other states out West. Specifically, New Mexico, as I travel through a couple of times a year and typically lodge there overnight and may spend an extra day exploring. My current resident state permit wasn't honored in either state, so I wanted to do something to be perfectly 'legal'.

Thought I had it covered until:

Then Nevada dropped a bombshell on Utah and refused reciprocity based on 'training' and some other nebulous reasons. Well, that knocks off Nevada for being able to carry in the manner of my choice. Bummer, but I can live with it. I don't frequent Lost Wages, Clark County, so it's not a big deal as I can OC sans permit during my exploring adventures elsewhere in the state. It does cause some other compliance issues, but I can work around it as infrequently as I'm there.

Now, New Mexico is having a hissy fit about Utah instructors coming into NM and licensing it's citizens in what the NMDPS says is a circumvention of the 16hr training regimen required for a NM resident to get licensed. NM is also reviewing all it's other reciprocity agreements so getting another non res permit, like FLA, may be chasing a moving target.

Fact is, the Utah permit is losing favor with some anti-RKBA officials. Nothing Utah is doing wrong. Just nitpicking, collectivist politicians throwing their worthless weight around. Wyoming tried this same no reciprocity maneuver when the NPS rules and finally the law changed. Wyoming folks stood up and pushed back on Gov Dave and got his appointed minion stopped.

Just sayin'.

Out of the 29 State that Utah is recognized in, my Ind LTCH is honored in all but 7 of those. A few States that I have no desire to go to due to helmet laws so those are not a problem. OH & NE are ones that I frequent, at least a time or to, and would like at least be legal. If not, 'I'm just passing through'. lol

Good 'ol hoosier state!

Thats what's nice about Indiana. We accept ANY states permit regardless of qualifications. The same can't be said for every other state accepting our LTCH. It's cool though, Kentucky, Tennessee, Gerogia, and Florida all accept it. Works for me seeings how I must travel through all these states to visit the In-laws in Orlando. not that it would matter thanks to a little thing called the "Safe Passage Act"

One of the law's provisions was that persons traveling from one place to another cannot be incarcerated for a firearms offense in a state that has strict gun control laws if the traveler is just passing through (short stops for food and gas) and the firearms and ammunition are not immediately accessible, unloaded and, in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, in a locked container.[6]

An example of this would be that someone driving from Virginia to a competition in Vermont with a locked hard case containing an unloaded handgun and a box of ammunition in the trunk could not be prosecuted in New Jersey or New York City for illegal possession of a handgun provided that they did not stop in New Jersey or New York for an extended period of time.
