Two toned sig 229

Ok so I know that everyone has difference needs and preferences but I've found (for me anyway) the best gun EVER!!! That is a sig 229 .40 caliber with a stainless steel frame and a blued slide with night sights. I've been looking everywhere since I got it and I just can't find one with a stainless frame and a blued slide. I'm guessing it's a discontinued or special edition but I'm probably wrong about that. Anyway, I've always loved the .40caliber round and instead of getting a plain jane 220 I decided to get the 229 from Dominion Outdoors in Stuarts Draft in Virginia. They're a pretty decent gun store by the way and have lower prices than anywhere else I've tried. I traded in my mossberg 590 with speedfeed stock (they only gave me $250 for it but I never shot the 590 and I wasn't walking out of there without the 229:lol but with the trade in and a box of ammo, the total cost was like $675.

I got home and immediately shot my brand new gun, boy was I impressed! First of all the recoil was soooo much less than I expected. I used to own a H&K USPc in .40 cal and there's no comparison between the two. This thing hardly kicks at all and would probably be able to handle double taps with ease. I plan to test that theory as soon as I get some more ammo. Second of all is the accuracy. Shooting from about 10 yards away, without my glasses (I know, I know,eye protection should always be worn but Iwas rushed for time and just forgot), and shooting fairly rapidly, I was able to keep 16 of 18 shots inside the 10 ring of a standard silhouette. Most of those were in the X ring :what:. ManI was impressed! I'm certain that in optimal conditions, firing at a reasonable rate, I could keep all my shots inside the X ring!The only thing I dislike is the weight, it's a little heavy but definitely not unmanagable. Plus the added weight helps reduce the recoil.

Like I said, I know everyone has different needs and preferences but for me, I've found the perfect gun. If you're looking for a new .40 caliber, I STRONGLY suggest a sig 229! They're worth every penny.

That's too funny. I just purchased a 229 today also!!!

I wasn't looking for a Sig. I was planing on a Walther p99 in .40. But they had a 'used' 229 in .40. But it was never used, not a single round fired through it(on a consignment type thing.) Glad to hear you like it a lot after taking it to the range. I was kinda kicking myself for buying it without doing my usual research. I pick mine up tomorrow.

I don't know anything about Sigs but I think mine might be a few years old as it does not have a rail. But heck, its never been fired. Hope I like it as much as you do.

Mine doesn't have a rail on it either. That's another reason I believe it's a discontinued version. I'm sure you'll love it after taking it to the range. Is yours stainless or blued? Today I shot 64 rounds through it and only 9 of those were outside the 10 ring.I was firing pretty rapidly, almost at a double tap pace and I just couldnot miss. This is one of those guns that literly feel like an extension of my arm and hand. It's just point and shoot and you're not going to miss. This will be the gun that I will carry without a bit of hesitation. The stainless version or two toned like mine is a little heavy to be holding and shooting for like a half hour straight but all I need is to get used to it. I'll shoot more soon and update you guys on the double tap accuracy.

Let us know how you like your 229 but I'm sure you'll love it.

The more I think about it now, I am considering backing out of buying it. I think it may be to big for my hand. I'll give it a better going over when I go down tomorrow. It's blued.

This thing double taps like it was made to do so. Yesterday was pretty much the first time I ever tried double tapping and I was able to keep all but 3 (out of about 30) inside the 7 ring or better. Most were in the 8 ring and a few were in the 9 ring. The rest were the first shots and they were either in the 10 or X ring, right where they were supposed to be. Either way, this thing double taps with ease.

I ended up getting a P239, fit my hand much better. Luckily I had until 1 o'clock(Sunday) to get down there and back out of the 229.

Only had time for a quick trip to the range, 1 box. This gun is sweet. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I found the recoil on the 239 to be much easier to control then my(former) Glock 23c.

I saw the title of this thread, and just couldn't help myself.

My Glock is two-toned also. It's black all of the time except when I pull the trigger...then it's black and orange.

I finally got around to taking a pic of my 229. I'm thinking that this is either a special order or a custom 229. Notice the serrations on the front part of the slide. I can't find a sig like this anywhere and I've looked darn near everywhere. Please let me know if this is a custom pistol or not.

The reason I'm inquiring about this is that I've fallen in love with Glocks and am considering the possibility of trading the 229 for a Glock 34 or 35. I'd prefer the 35 since it's a .40 caliber and I have plenty of ammo and reloading supplies for .40 caliber. However, if I get the 9mm 34, I'll be able to get a silencer for it at some point. :what::lol::what:Either of these will be a tack driver type gun. At least as close to a tack driver as I can get. Also, if I ever decide to get into competing, this is what I'll reach for. Can anyone tell me how accurate the competition Glocks are, preferably compared to my 229?

You know that Sig looks alot like and Equinox. You can find them on the Sig website. I have a HSP (Homeland Security Pistol with the American flag) and it is the best .40 i have ever shot. Glad to hear you like yours as much as i like mine.

If you notice on the sig website, the equinox has wood grips, a fiber optic front sight, and a black frame. Mine has plastic grips, a tritium front sight and a stainless steel frame. The front slide serations are what get me, I've yet to see another sig with them on the slide.
