Firearm serial numbers are stamped into the frame.

Stamping the numbers in distorts the surrounding metal down to the molecular level.

Using a Dremel or similar device to remove the numbers only removes the metal near the surface, but leaves much behind.

Metallurgists can examine the frame and determine what the numbers once were using magnetic flux or other techniques.

The idiot television writers aren't metallurgists, so they don't know this.

Not to mention the fact that most states have no gun registration to trace a gun with. My old Blackhawk was probably bought by a relative from a co-worker in a shipyard 40+ years ago, and most of the way across the country. If someone attempted to "trace" the pistol, they'd probably have to look through a bunch of old paper records to find that some dead guy bought it on the east coast in the 1960's. That wouldn't give them a lot to go on... :)

I look at it as just a movie. The real Allison lives in Phoenix last I heard and she has a get away place someplace outside of Pine or show low I forget now. I've never talked to her but I know people that know her very well. In real life she is pro gun and from what they have told me she is a very good shot

There was a polka-doted rainbow glued to a rhinoceros' left shoulder while it was flossing it's teeth with whipped cream. So, obviously, the universe exploded and we're all dead.

I can be a TV writer, too!!!!

Bad guys always buy their guns retail. Gun registration is universal. :banghead:

If you are a bad guy and really want to mess with the cops, buy an old peacemaker and you can shoot 50 rounds without reloading. That's all because in those days they didn't keep records of dangerous assault pistols. I know this to be true because I am a big John Wayne fan.

I am not sure which is worse, the TV Show/Movie that has something like this in a scene or the person that gets upset and wants to post about it on the Internet. Its a TV Show, get over it. If the local Police Chief says this in a presser then feel free to question him but not the one in a movie. How come no one ever questions why all Law & Order trials are held in the Supreme Court only two weeks after the crime is committed?

Are you seriously suggesting that there are still people out there who watch Law & Order?

I don't know if anyone watches or not but it sure seems that at least one version is on at least one channel 24 hours a day.

I do. It has some comedic value...

You mean like when they trace a gun across 3 states and 3 decades to from where it was sold to a suspect in NYC?

Or do you mean like how the perps always get scared and start talking when they tell them they know everything?

Or.....
