Hello, Texas.

Went to a Tuesday Morning store today to find a cheap 800-1000 thread count comforter, which they are good for, but noticed a no guns allowed sign at the front door. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and signs do not mean anything here, as they do in some states. In those states that they do have meaning, I also understand that they have to be certain height, etc. Is Texas one of those sign states?

Anyway, corporate confirmed the insane policy over the phone. I responded with the firearm free zone, criminals welcome argument and the empty skirt said I should write a letter. I am, but felt compelled to write the Texas site here, as they are HQ'd in Dallas. The link is above.

Any letters besides mine would help. Thanks...

I know open carry not allowed in Texas(of ALL states???!)but, that is my prefered carry method. I will not go down lightly. Please spare me the it's concealed, they won't even know theory. It's principal!

Ahhh! The sign thing explains that stupid policy, I imagine. The signs here don't even come close to those specs.. Makes me wonder if the ones in Texas are spec.. It seems like a nice loophole, in our favor, that if the signs are out of compliance, they mean nothing.

Man, that really gets me that of ALL states, Texas is not open carry. Probably the BIRTHPLACE of it, where concealed carry means you were 'underhanded', something to hide. I just can't fathom how states like Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Hampshire and Vermont are pro open carry and not Texas. I grew up in upstate NY and know both sides. It's funny, but, the gun laws of a particular state haveALOT of bearing on whether I would live there or not, now. Republic of NY not one of them.

I'm not good at political correctness, but I shot this off....

Upon recent discovery of your "insane" no gun policy, which only applies to law abiding citizens and not criminals, I will never venture into your establishments again. Who are you to deny my constitutional rights? Shouldn't your policy reflect the laws of the state that we reside? While you're at it, why don't you barr blacks, jews or homosexuals? It is the same thing, is it not? Or, post a sign not allowing child molesters. Why do you not have a sign like this? Do you condone child molesters in your stores? If not, why not a sign? Instead, you would rather molest law abiding citizens, with no criminal record, state and federal background checks, fingerprints willfully submitted as well as private medical records, not to mention qualifying at the range with state approved instructors and no ill intention, except to protect ourselves and ANY innocent bystander. Whoever made this policy is a moron(and probably a liberal)without any regard to the safety of his/her employees. Imagine you are the cashier being robbed/raped at gunpoint. Would you want one of us in the store, or would you say, don't worry the police will catch him later? Oh, by the way...an East Baton Rouge Deputy(the agency that responds to this store) was just arrested by another East Baton Rouge Deputy immediately outside of your store #632 at Jones Creek/Tiger Bend for DWI in a MARKED unit(a cop car) 3 days ago. Ask the manager at #632. A concealed weapons permit holder in Louisiana knows better than this. We HONOR our privalege. Your sign means nothing, legally, in Louisiana, and reflects the unprofessionalism in your organization. The signs may have some legality in the state of Texas, but not here. I wish I could say that I would ignore your signs and carry anyway, which I would without you knowing, but I will not enter your store just because of principal and I am upset with this because of the sheets I am used to buying there in the 800-1200 thread count range for a great price. Instead, I will inform my comrades of your "firearm free-criminals welcome" zone. This is the sign you should broadcast. It will let criminals know that NO ONE in the store is armed-help yourselves!!

I take it, by the sign in Baton Rouge, that the sign applies to law enforcement, too. Let's hope it's not the usual patrol for store #632 under the influence in his marked unit, huh? I'm sure I'll get the canned response about how there's a bad egg everywhere, hell, you probably even have a bumper sticker saying you're thankful for the 1000's of good priests...well, I have one that says I'm thankful for the 1000's of bad priests that are in lock up and in general population to get their just desserts.

If I am wrong, please give me your phone number for a PERSONAL apology. If I am right, you have lost my business forever.

RE: That last post

I'm hoping you didn't actually send that to anyone.

Aside from everything else, name calling isn't usually good for a complaint letter. And it should also be fairly well written. And yelling via all-capital letters is bad, too.

It has nothing to do with political correctness, but with effectively getting one's point across. An uncontrolled rant may feel good, but a well-reasoned, factually-based and cited, kindly-worded letter will at least have a chance at yielding positive results.
